Trailer dolly

Background.I was given a headache rack that was started and was no longer wanted.  So what else to do but cut it up, it didn't fit my truck.Got it cut apart today and was looking at it thinking.So we got to here.  The handle is a bit long but it works great to me.  I was going to add a gusset between the ball and handle but it turned out to be a little to short.  Suppose that happens when you don't plan things out.At the end of the day I am happy, I may shorten it a bit, but more then likely not.  It pick's up the tongue by itself which I actually kind of like.  I don't have to do that work.  (trailer empty)  Believe it's 1/4" it is 2" square tube, the axle is 5/8" rod, tires from an air compressor, handle is from a trailer axle little big.  All it all, I had everything sitting around so it's free for me just time and a little rod.All welded with 6011 DCEP around 100 amp.
Reply:You saved yourself some bucks and strain with that dolly.If you decide to modify it, I have a suggestion for you....Add a large swivel caster about a foot in front of the dolly wheels, and design it to where when the trailer is lifted the trailer ball is a few inches in front of the dolly axle.....That way you can lift the trailer and allow it to break over and rest on all three wheels so you ain't fighting the handle up and down as you move trailer.
Reply:I understand what you are saying, I do have a bad back not real bad at the moment.   I will say this however.  Being 1/4" (or real close) square tube the dolly lifts the trailer by itself.  My  year old daughter was able to turn and pull it by herself tonight.  (granted level ground and concrete, but it's pretty well balanced)But when I can scrounge enough real good advice for my dad's that will come whenever I can gather enough to make another.
