Reply:Show us the rest of the machine. "Junior" is probably the model.
Reply:I've been to lathes.co.uk and haven't found anything with that markingMore picsI'll try to remembe to take better pics tomorrow.
Reply:Just try cleaning it up and look for a name on the castings.Sometimes on side of the bed or on the sides of the larger castings.

Reply:Well...the lathe looks like it has been worked hard and put away wet for decades, so there may be plenty of 'slop' and misaligned/broken parts to work around. About the only serious parts would be either you haven't shown the right side of the headstock to show if it uses change gears...and if so you have them, or if those two broken studs/pins/bolts just below the 'Junior' name were to support a quick change gearbox...and you don't have that. Personally, unless it is a labor of love, your grandfather's lathe or you just like spending money on a none to competent machine on its best days, I'd walk away from this one. If you were 'lucky' and it was a South Bend Junior, which would be far more common than any other manufacturer's 'junior', parts would still be expensive and at best difficult to come by. Right now you are looking at a complete teardown of the headstock, apron and crosslide as I imagine whatever grease or oil in them has turned to rock hard varnish over the yearsLincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:My father and I took it apart and cleaned everything today. Nothing seems misaligned and there doesn't appear to be any slop. All the gears are in fantastic shape. It was just really, really, really dirty. The grease that was in it wasn't hard. Everything turned freely and there were no grinds in anything. What side of the headstock do you want to see pics of?I didn't pay much for this lathe (Can't afford much now that I'm back in school fulltime). At all. I just needed a small lathe at home.
Reply:If you are looking for a machine to use and are trying to keep costs down, RUN away from this.A machine of this vintage may be cheap up front. If anything is missing, you will have to make it. If tooling is not with it, you may searching and paying a premium for scarce parts.Find a well tooled machine that is tight with a nice rpm range with a low near 25 or 50 and a high with at least 1500-2000 high end. You'll need a 4 jaw and 3 jaw is nice along with steady and follow rests. Tool holders in the QCTP type are best IMO. Tooling a machine will many times cost much more than the machine itself. NEVER FORGET this.Unless you are wanting to restore the machine for sentimental reasons or if it was the only one ever made or simply a labor of love, I would leave it alone!http://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:It's in the labour of love category.I really dig old equipment too.
Reply:Go over to yahoo groups.... machinist , metal lathe,etc.... someone is going to recognize it and that will sure help for finding parts....Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
