Hey ...Just curious if there is a set of standard colors used for material thickness ??I'm starting to gather and make some spacers type things to aid when clamping - and since I can't tell by just looking at it, to save me time to check each .... thought it might be a good idea to paint the ends. So before I start my own color codes - thought I would check to see if there was a Standard to follow Thanks ...Welder want-to-be !
Reply:Might be, but the only consistent color I have seen is green for 3/16"
Reply:yeah 3/16 is green from where i get mine too. .250 is blue, and .125 is red. it won't come to me what .375 is, but the color yellow come to mind. not at all sying thats the standard, it's what it is where i get itLast edited by 123weld; 01-31-2016 at 01:19 PM.
Reply:One of the places where I get steel has a color scheme of some type for the basic sizes. Really couldn't say whether they do it or it comes off the truck that way. Reply:On the old LJ cone crushers they used a shim system for adjustment and they were all different colors for each thickness. I don't see why you can't make up your own color system like they did. Reply:I think it varies depending on distributor. Where I get my stuff, green is .095, red is .25", and gold is .375" |
