Newbie here..I took some intro welding class and picked up an older Century 225 wire feed welder. Works great but the settings are different than what I'm used to in class since we use a Miller in class. If I wanted to weld 14 gauge exhaust tubing, what default setting should I start at? Is there a manual I can download somewhere?.035 wire75/25 mixthanks!Last edited by bdr; 10-14-2014 at 01:55 PM.
Reply:Practice on scrap.Does the welder have a chart on the door ?What's the front panel look like?
Reply:Fixing to practice on scrap..I was thinking 3/4 is what I would start at..but since there wasnt a 14 gauge in the list..I'd be guessing. Attached Images
Reply:Post pics of your practice and someone can help you dial in your settings.Put a piece of 2 or 3" painters tape on top of machine and when you find a good setting for certain material thickness write it down.
Reply:First..Wire speed is 4, heat is 3.It always seems like I get a small "ball" on the end of the wire when I stop or the wire burns too quick as if the feed is too slow. I'll see if I can somehow record this.
Reply:If it's starting to burn back and ball up try kicking up the speed a bit.
Reply:http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2urn...8#.VD2-lJVXZhEIgnore the other welds..most are with a Millermatic 211 in class. The other 2 or 3 are with my Century. I'm almost at the point of buying a new one because the settings are just about spot on.
Reply:I think something is up with the welder... I ordered a Hobart Handler 210MVP, it'll be here Wednesday. In the meantime...I'll drop off the Century 225 to get repaired since its a good welder. |
