Hi,I bought a Lincoln Squarewave TIG 175 at an auction.  To make a long story short, the main transformer was blown.  It is a 460 volt "European" model but I am looking for the 220 volt transformer in order to convert it to 220 so it can be used in the average garage.  A welder repair tech told me it can be converted if I can find the part.I know its a long shot and that it may be priced beyond my reach, but I thought I would ask anyway.  Maybe someone has a parts machine that is just gathering dust.  If I can't find the 220 volt transformer, a replacement 460 volt model will do just to get this machine running again.  My plan is to get it running and put it up for sale.  It is complete otherwise.I learned a good lesson to make sure something is working before I bid on it unless I am ready for this experience again.Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Tony
Reply:A winding shop should be able to rewind your transformer for 240 v operation, since it is toast anyway this may be the cheapest repair if you can't find a good one."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:Hi,I looked up the names of some electrical shops in Phoenix today.  I will get around to calling them tomorrow and see what they might charge for such a service.  I may have to get a hold of a 220 user's manual that includes a schematic. Thanks,Tony

Reply:Well I am going to take the welder to a few shops to take a look at the transformer.  One however already filled me in with a very general "guestimate" that in the worst case scenario I could be looking at $2000 for transformer rewind.Assuming a "steal" at "only" $1000 for the rewind, its not only out of my price range, it's out of my league!I will take the transformer to the shops anyway so I can get a firm quote, but I won't be shocked when I hear the quotes.I''m already leaning towards selling it off as parts and try and get as much back as I can. Thanks for your input,Tony
Reply:Assuming a rewind is prohibitively expensive, there is a lot of copper in that transformer. Sell it for scrap, then part out the machine.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
Reply:Yeah, you're right.  To the scrap yard it is and I'll start disassembling the machine into parts and put them on ebay. Thanks,Tony
