I was just watching this and thought you guys would find this interesting. Both as something new (space industry) and low speed and low load and self feeding. How long will it take for the chinese to have this on the market? It's interesting that it generates black powder and not chips too.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGKeFyLG7aY&feature=related[/ame]Last edited by dumb as a stump; 07-08-2012 at 09:46 AM.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:I'm pretty sure he's drilling carbon fiber composite, not steel or aluminum plate. Still it's a novel idea.ON a different subject, I was in sears a day or two ago and looked at their new ratchet design that eliminates the need for deep well sockets. The socket sits inside the ratchet head, and the bolt shaft or all thread can pass through the socket and wrench. I thought it was interesting, but I ain't going to throw out my collection of sockets just yet.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:it says its carbon composite material, that would be the reason for the black dust. I wonder how that set up would work on steel, or stainless steel.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.
Reply:you would think he could at least get a drill without a warped chuck. read the intro, A Dab is correct, its carbon fiber not metalTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:Klien makes a hand tool real similar to that, just doesn't drill the pilot, so the idea isn't all that new.I would be more impressed if the drill motor wasn't so warped it can't drill straight and the material he was drilling wasn't carbon fiber which is soft as butter.A better demonstration would have been to chuck into a drill press and use a 3/8-1/2 piece of cold rolled steel.

Reply:the ratchet design has been out for some time (Gear wrench) has had them out for several years now.
Reply:Wobbly A$s space drill lol..."Converts an axial load requirment into a torque requirement" Very cool. The design would probably work just fine for steel. the first of the threads for a given step would just be undersized so each following thread removes more and more metal.Last edited by MikeGyver; 07-08-2012 at 06:29 PM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
