There is a used lincoln 300D at my work that is being auctioned off. Our welder told me that it has a problem with the armature --- i think. It has 1500 hours and looks good cosmetically. What do you think i should bid. I plan to wax it and resell it on craigslist, or maybe on this forum. I am positive that the engine runs good and has had regular oil changes etc. Thanks, Lee
Reply:I think you should bid $6.00 per hour, based on the hour meter reading. That's less than minimum wage!Rex
Reply:Any more clever advice?
Reply:Carefull, I picked up a pair of Lincoln commanders, they both have electrical issues and have running diesels, however I also found out they are complicated for the novice trouble shooter ( thats me) and I have probably bit off more than I can chew, The electrical parts are pricey, case in point 1 has a bad rotor, non rebuildable and $2400 new from Lincoln. Hardly worth it on a high hour machine. Both have burned circuit boards.Point being the old simple machines may be a good gamble not running, the newer technology can get pricey, real quick, to fix. Good luck ,but a wax job may not yield much profit."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:I wax everything I turn around and it does help.  You don't see car dealers selling dirty cars.  Anyway, I will proceed with caution.  BTW when things sell here at my work they tend to go way under value.  I bet I can get this for 1000-1500.  Would that be a reasonable gamble if I sold it as- is?
Reply:Don't know but the used machine market is down and flooded right now. More guys selling than buying. I paid 1400 for the two commanders and I think I made a bad investment now. I now will not pay over 500 for anything that I don't start and weld with, especially it it is more modern. On the little machines like the Weldanpowers and Bobcats, I won't pay over 200, I have picked up a few TLC and then running for well under 100 bucks. SA 200's go anywhere from 200-500 but older technology.I don't want to insinuate anything but I hope you wouldn't try to turn a large profit with a wax job on a machine you know has a bad rotor. That is the type of thing " Car Dealers" do. When you say up for auction at your work, is it sealed bid or would you have privy to what was being bid and would you have last best offer, see what kind of money it brings and for a grand I think it would be a good deal. Are you able to run a few quick tests on it, the guys here could tell you how to Ohm the armature and rotor. What diesel does it have? Parting out is always and option. I had a guy at a welder repair shop, one that has been around for years, offer me a machine like this for 1700, says it needs a circuit board but he has not had time to replace it in 3 years. Seemed kind of fishy to me, That board might be quite expensive, or it might be more to it. It is a Classic II with a Deutz I believe.Last edited by kolot; 05-19-2010 at 12:16 AM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
