A co-worker was looking for a unique gift to give her husband and so we started talking...... Turns out he is a Star Wars fanatic so she asked me if I could a nameplate like I have done for others in the past..... I said sure......It's a combination of steel and Aluminum... It came out exactly as I had envisioned it in my mind.....First..... after some compact bender work.... I start to mock it up with magnets to get an idea of how it will come together......After the letters are welded up then I place it all together to get the spacing correct........Most of the metal came out of the scrap bin...... the base was a piece of channel I enclosed..... the back plate was from who knows what......I had to buy some extra Aluminum because I didn't have enough laying around.......I bought some latex gloss Black paint..... poured into my air sprayer..... and went to work......Then mounted the Aluminum behind the letters and called it a day........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Not bad, but I think you might want to take a look at a few books on type setting. Not all letters are the same size in a type face many times and position is based on several factors.The look of the letters is "off" in my book. The W and S on the bottom row don't look "right" in proportion with the A and the R. Not by much, but enough it looks "odd" to me. The W looks to be 3 times the size of the A. It probably needs to be something like 2 or 2 1/2 times as big to get the proportion right. I forget now. It's been a long time since I used to use type books to work out lettering for drafting projects by hand..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Mr. Flex nice work,  I have made metal signs for some time and spacing is number one next to sizing your letters.  If you have 2 four letter words make sure they are the same size so if you offset by one letter the over all sign will look uniform and then center carefully on backing.  Just how I like to do it is set your words up and look at them for a while to make sure they are perfect then weld and look at them them somemore, at that time they either go to customer or junk pile.  just a idea  clifton
Reply:In reference to the "W" just make the last bit of it match the angle of tge adjacent "A" and I think it will be solid. Oh yeah, and that "R" lol. I think proportions arent necessarily as important as making all the angles and other small things identical.For scrap, looks excellent. Few tweaks and they will love it.
