I was planning on buying one but after watching other builds I figured I would give it a go. I picked up 2x2 14ga spuare tube (100ft total) today and went to work. I am using a plan and I am within 1/16 of spec and have 5 hours in the build. The frame is welded out except the leveling feet. Attached Images

Reply:Legs red by now??...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:looking good! welding in shorts...the test of a true bat crap crazy welder!  I love it!
Reply:Love the wood jigs. What "kit" gantry are you using. Put some SPF 30 on the legs and arms. Reply:Looks like a good start I built mine too and it has done a great job for me.  Sure is fun seeing it make the first cuts and thinking about all the new stuff you can do.  Keep up posted of how its going.
Reply:I too will be following this tread. The CNC plasma is amazing to me. I wish I was a tech. kind of guy I see you folks make all your stuff, I would be in the weeds lost.Do not wear nylon shorts and weld!!!  Mr. Spark might melt the fabric in to your giblets.:Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Thanks everyone. Yeah the jig worked nice and a lot straighter than that floor. I just checked on cr 3/8x 3" and a 12' length is going to run $65,  I might try to get that today if they have it in stock and some 1/2 fb for the leveling feet.
Reply:Hey ReebsThere is plenty of info to help those who are in the weeds, if you have the desire you too can learn.  Many of us started in the weeds and now have fun with plasma.  Do some looking and ask for help expand your world.Have funTom

Reply:Nice job man.  You using the CandCNC and PP kits?Yea Reebs, give it a go.  I posted my thread to show that anyone can do it.  I had no clue about CNC stuff and mine is already almost up and running.  Few more details to iron out.
Reply:I won't be using a kit. I will build the gantry and get the electronics and gears/rails from Ebay. This way I should be around $1,000 on the whole deal
Reply:I am looking to build one when I get home. CNCrouterparts.com has some nice stuff to aid in the design, they use 8020 aluminum to mount to. I am between using those components such as the gear reduction from him and linear v-rails. Your frame looks good. I too am notorious for welding in shorts, flip-flops, and a Coors-light. I am looking forward to your kit, the more DIYs I see completed the more confident I am of success. I am thinking my kit may cost around 5k when complete, the airscribe is a must for me do you plan on running one? Good work so far.
Reply:How do you determine how far out of "spec" or I presume "square plumb and level" your frame is?  I can't imagine you have a surface plate that big...?
Reply:One thing about building your own table is you can add accessories you want.  Here is the plate marker I built for my table.  And a video on the axis sliders I developed for the X & Y rails. Plans and parts are available from many sources.Go for it you only live once.  All tools are very useful but some open a new world to you.  Attached Images

Reply:Looks great Jester,  Looks like the CP 9361 scribe? What electronics do you run on that? And software? I too will use a pneamatic cylinder for the airscribe. I heard running about 30 psi through a regulator keeps the scribe in nice harmony with the plate as it travels. Are running a similar setup?
Reply:That is a copy of the CP 9361 about ½ the price.  I run 90 PSI to the scribe and about 5 to10 to the cylinder, the scribe will not run with less. I run on solenoid to a “T” then one regulator for the scribe and the other to the cylinder.  I use the software to trigger the solenoid just like the plasma torch and router (M3 on M5 of from Mach3).  The solenoid must have  release port (breath) or the pressure will not drop in the cylinder and the scribe will stay in contact wit the metal when it moves to the next letter.Software I use either CR8trace of Inkscape to produce a SVG file then to SheetCam to make G-code.  Both these programs are free on the web and use BMP files as inputs.  I use work to make a message picking a font I like then select a size the is large, type the message and use a screen print to capture the message in a BMP file.  CR8trace is the simplest to use just import the BMP and save the SVG done no other steps needed. Reply:Do most of the pneumatic slides work for the scriber?  This is definitely something I want to add to my table.

Reply:I ran my scribe as a stand along but the bracket is setup so I could attach both the torch and scribe at the same time.  Many do it that way and you just need to know the distance between the two and work it in the CAM program so you can locate the tool as you use them.  I have seen unit that use the scribe for center punching the drill locations and then cut the part with the plasma.  Youtube has a guy that marks the size of a hole then cuts it to make a shaft sizing tool. I use a BOB board from EBay it is a very small one from China but the relay went out so I have to by-pass it and add a external relay (to fire the torch).  My slide and cylinder are separate but there are combo units that do both, EBay sells both types.
Reply:WEll I am still alive and finally decided to start work on the table again. I will be ordering linear rails and ballscrews this week and will see how long it takes me to get to it.here is where I am at thoughThanks for the update! Looking good man! cnc plasmas are a great tool to have around! Not only does it make cutting a breeze but being able to look and examine the part before hitting the cut button is great! Right now I am trying to decide on a tail light layout design for a truck I am working on. You can see in the pic below I am able to draw up all kinds of different designs and see how it will look before hitting the button. Helps tremendously when you have a visual.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:Yes, definitely a good tool to own. I scored a pretty cool find for the electronics via my mom. She gave me a retired paper machine and the monitor will sit in the front window. Hope get that finished next weekend and will post pics
Reply:Just ordered some parts to get this table moving.

Reply:Well my ebay order came and after a lot of head scratching I have all three axis turning both directions. I do not have everything bolted up as it would of cost me a good $100 for hardware at Ace. I ordered allen bolts from boltdepot.com for $20 shipped! here are a few pics and the z axis moving Attached Images

Reply:I was able to get a little bit further on the build today and another $100 in, im at about $1300 in to the build so far! Well I got started on the water tray and cut slats. I didn't weld the tray to the table, I will add tabs and bolt it in case it ever needs to come out. I just need the sheet steel for the bottom to complete it. I don't think I will fully weld the sheet, I will probably silicone or rtv then tack all the way around. anyways couple pics
