Lincoln Electric 140HD Question

I just picked up a Lincoln electric 140HD with a magnum 100lI was wondering if it is "live trigger"?I seem to be able to strike an arc without pulling the trigger. I checked the user manual and there is no mention of this. Is that how it is made, or is mine defective?thanks

Reply:I was just  testing the welder and it seems that if i turn on the welder, the gun isn't live untill i depress the trigger. After that, the gun is always live untill i shut it off and turn it on again.........so that means its defective?what would be the cause of it? the gun or welder?thanks

Reply:post the serial number and code number. then we have a chance of quessing what is dieing.if it is a power mig 140t (HD) Plastic drive. Sounds like the pc board may be failing.If the welder is less than 3 years old you can still get it fixed under warranty. The warranty shops don't ask questions on how you got it if it is under warranty by serial number.Date of manufacture is coded in the serial number. The first letter is the country code.next is plant number, next two are the year, next two are the month, the rest are sequence numbers.
Reply:Its a weld pak 140HDmodel number 11303serial m3081006383from the serial it appears to be made in 2008, so it should be under warranty.I'm going to bring it in the the service center tomorrow and see what the problem is.Hopefully they cover it under warranty.thanks all!
Reply:Made in plant number 3 in Mexico October 2008Make sure the shop is a Lincoln shop and you shouldn't have any problems.Check your drive roll and make sure the groove is the same size all the way around.Lincoln had trouble with some of the early ones. Some of the same time period drives were noisy. We have replaced a of of them. Haven't had a board problem like yours yet. They usually come in dead.
Reply:I dropped it off at an authorized Lincoln repair shop and they siad it is covered from the date of manufacture if i didn't have a receipt. Luckily it was made in 2008, so I don't have to pay the 88$ an hour rate they charge.
Reply:So today I got a msg from the shop today.......the pcb is indeed on its way out.They are ordering a new one, so I should get it back in a few days!
