Reply:Jody has a pretty good bid estimate system of $1 a tack and $1 per inch of weld. That puts your project at about $38, round up to $40 and call it good.

Reply:Did they bring it to you? There material? If they brought it to me with there material $80. Set up fee for one piece tell them if they do more then one it can be discounted. Reply:Yea. This is not a "friends" job. This is a papermill. Maybe your friend works for the papermill? Even if he owned the mill, 120-150 would be more like it (with a quantity discount like said above).   Charge $150 and give ur friend a gift card or something for getting you the job.Dynasty 200DX   (2014)Millermatic 211 (2015)Optrel 864   (2014)Smith Medium duty MBA 30510 (Xmas 2014)Tennsmith 16ga 4ft finger brake (2015)Trailblazer 325 EFI and excel Thermal dynamics Cutmaster 82Miller maxtron 450

Reply:Many times these "Buddy deals" turn into more work, sometimes they turn into 1099 nightmares. Let me ask you this, is your electric, heat, welding equipment, experience, shop equipment, taxes, time, all free? Do the math on all of that and charge a dam good rate for first rate work, if they don't like your price, then lesson learned and on to the next customer that understands what it takes to run a business. It aint easy my friend.
Reply:My first question is why didn't the paper mill do this themselves? Probably half their maint. department is capable of doing it. It is gravy work that can be done at a bench in their department.  Those guys would be standing in line to do that job. If its dirty, ugly, cold, wet, and needs to be done upside down then they do not want to do it. This job would keep one of their maint. men busy for at least half a day at the rate they work maybe even a day. You do not get gravy jobs from a papermill for no reason.
Reply:Thanks for the input on this.it took me 15 minutes each for these so I charged him an even hunert...he seems pretty happy with it so I'll hit him for more next time
Reply:You did ok, you can price yourself out of business, or you can price yourself into chapter 11, somewhere in between is about right lol. Don't EVER use that "I'll get them next time" philosophy, never ever do that with a customer you plan on doing more business with. They will take advantage of you for ever and beat your price down, been there done that and paid dearly for it.
Reply:You done good and for most customers it is a fair price.  I would have put a bead on the back side too though. Not for strength but so the pulp would not cling to it.

Reply:What's your buddy going to do for you? $100 is certainly not over priced but it seems a bunch of posters think you should have charged a lot more without knowing all the details and how good of a buddy this is. I don't know how you group all pulp mills the same. If it was a good friend and wanted a good weld, $100 is fair.
Reply:I can sure relate to charging more money for  this and I would have had it been anyone else.its an Engineer I work with that's doing a side job so I will likely get more work out of the deal plus my overhead is cheap,I did this on my lunch break at work. Reply:What is your hourly rate? Then divide by 4 and that is your price for each. Minimum charge comes into play if there is just one. My minimum charge is half hour.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
