Hi guys,Good morning. This is my first post and likely not my last. I have been viewing the forum for about a year now. I am a little ashamed that it took for me considering whether or not to buy this welding machine to join.I have found a 2010 Miller Dynasty 200DX with 5 hours and 34 minutes on it. It includes the contractor's kit. He was asking $3200 for it. I countered with $2500 and he came back with $2750 and that he will throw in a full bottle of argon. Here are some pics:Is there anything else I would need to start welding? Does how dusty the machine is concern anyone? I have also read on welding web that the Miller warranty is transferable. Is that really true? Should I stick to my guns on the $2500 or is what this guy asking fair.A little about me:I am very new to welding. I have very little mig experience and no tig or stick experience. I have the desire to build a chromoly chassis. This, of course, has made me consider the purchase of a tig machine. First, I looked at Miller and saw how high the prices were on the Dynasty 200DX. I then saw Everlast and was very interested based on the nice price and the oddly high duty cycle. I almost pulled the trigger on a 250EX but thankfully I checked weldingweb and got that out my system. I then started looking at the Diversion 165 and 180 series of machines. I then stumbled upon this Dynasty 200DX that I am asking about above. Thanks in advance for any replys,Ryan
Reply:Dynasty's are great machines, but are often scammed. Make sure you can physically see and touch the unit and that it runs, before you plunk down any money.New the unit's probably worth $3700 as you see it, but if you shopped around for the accessories, I bet you could shave a few hundred off the total, say $3400-3500. $2750 for a low hours working unit isn't terrible. If I was looking at a new Syncrowave 200 around $2300, I'd certainly think real hard about simply shelling out the extra couple hundred for a Dynasty. If you add your location to your User CP at the top left, some one here might know of a CL deal in your area you might not be aware of..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:If you don't buy it "quick" at that price, someone else sure will. Not sure that the contactor kit includes a remote (foot or finger), but you can add a nice SSC foot control for about $180.I'd check to see when he purchased the unit to determine how much warranty remains.A little dust wouldn't bother me nearly as much as a unit that had been "banged around" and showed dents/scratches from portable use.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:If portability is not a issue what about a Miller 200 Syncro ? http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...p?model=M00204http://store.cyberweld.com/milsyn180sd2.htmlhttp://store.cyberweld.com/milsyn180sdr.html
Reply:The one on Denver CL lasted about 5 minutes.
Reply:My god you guys are driving the Dynasty prices through the roof.  They used to be $3200 new and refurb units with a mid size cylinder and watercooler could be had for $2300 any day of the week on Ebay.As for that deal, I wouldn't count the cylinder towards the value.  That tank is too small to be practical.  Stick to $2500.
Reply:So I didn't respond to the guy for a little while and he came back with "well the wife said the lowest I can go is $2650 which will include the bottle." I asked him to give me exactly what will come with it and this is what he sent me: Miller dynasty 200dx with 5 hours and 34 minutes Complete contractors kit Foot pedal Torch Ground clamp with cable Collets and cups for 3/32, 1/16, and. 040 tungsten sizes Arc welding torch 1/16 and 3/32 filler rod for aluminum 1/16 and 3/32 filler rod for steel 3 pieces 3/32 tungsten for steel 2 pieces 3/32 tungsten for aluminum Argon bottle with 1800 psi (small size)So I just did the math for me to go get the machine from the guy will cost me $130 in gas round trip not to mention waste a whole Saturday. This is starting to make me consider buying a new one either online from cyberweld.com or from my LWS. That would give me peace of mind knowing i have the full warranty on a new machine. Of course that will cost more in the long run but I can set it up the way I want to like water cooled torch. What you think guys? You all seem to be kind of quite lately.Again thanks in advanced,Ryan
Reply:If I was wanting a dynasty and I confirmed the machine was a 2010 I'd most likely jump on it. If you get the serial # you can go on Miller's website and find out the exact manufacture date of the machine. The warranty is 3 years and it is transferable, they go by the serial # for warranty. $2650 is a great price with all the accessories, just start pricing things and add it up.A 2010 machine has the latest "blue lightning " technology as well.As a fellow dynasty owner I say jump on it.

Reply:Hi guys,Sorry for the long follow up. I got the guy to finally send me the serial #. I called miller service and found out that the machine is actually an 2008 model. This unit didn't get the blue lightning tech update nor the new waveforms that the later 2008 models got. The service rep said that the insides of the pre-update machines are substantially different than the post updated ones. This news combined with the machine being out of warranty is making me reconsider. The good news is that the machine was never reported stolen nor has any warranty work been reported. Also he came down to $2500. Again looking for feedback. Thanks for everyone's patience.

Reply:Unless you are sold on blue, u should see my V205T lincoln Invertec I got for sale...  Its completed with a cooler for $2500 obo and does everything the dyansty does.   I just had it over at Shovelon's welding shop last month when he gave me some tig tutoring..  I can send u a video of me running it too.  Paypal and shipping available.Last edited by soutthpaw; 07-18-2012 at 08:32 PM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:It's worth the 2500.  You're also getting alot of extras that would definitely add up if you had to get them.  If you go on the Miller site, the Dynasty thread has a user that posted a way to improve arc starts on the older units to be better, almost like the newer model,   Do you really think you will need adjustable waveforms?  I bet that's light years away.  I'd love to know how many of the pros on the site use this feature and when.  Just make sure you can test the machine there.  Test on AC and DC.  Look at the manual online to figure out how to display the arc starts and hours on the meters.  the guy has already possibly been less than truthful with you about the machine age.  If youre not 100% sold on a Dynasty, the TA 185 Arcmaster is one hell of a machine and can be had used for around $1500.  I had one, and as a hobbyist, I can't say it didn't do anything less than I use my Dynasty for.  I bought my Jan 2010 D200 tig runner package with two medium size Ar tanks for $3500 earlier this yr.  My machine had more hrs on it than what you're looking at.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
