Space is quite limited and I'm mentally designing a drop leaf welding table as a future project. Size is small: 2'x3' with a 2'x2' drop leaf. 1/4" plate is only 40 lbs on the leaf.  That would give me a 2' x 5' space when opened. To me, the tricky part is how to design it so the leaf exactly lines up vertically and level with the stationary top when lifted up. The angle support probably ought to have some way to micro adjust the level. I suppose I could instead use legs that have threaded adjusters as feet except that's not as handy as lifting up the leaf and having it lock into place. I don't want auxiliary pieces that I have to figure out where to store them (it) hence the idea for the drop leaf.I Googled to see if anyone had done it and couldn't find anything. Has anyone done something similar and/or know where there are pics of such a thing?

Reply:Interesting. It looks like 2 legs might rotate out to support the leaf. If they were the exact height as the others, the leaf would be flat and level.

Reply:try building like the leaf table that have a swing out legs would be you best bet. You could make it with two swing out legs. But no mater how you build you will still need some sorta support to the floor or you will have a very tipsy table .

Reply:Here is another option for your consideration!! Build the top frame however seems best to you, but use male receiver tubing on both ends. Then slide your tubing which support the leaf into the receiver tube for storage. Think of two arms telescoping out from the end receiver tubings. Of course, enough tubing would need to remain inside the male part to provide enough rigidity. Then consider mounting the drop-leaf on the style of hinges that by sliding the drop-leaf to one side it could be disconnected and be removed if one would wish. I don't like to bend down more then necessary, so I would consider folding the top up instead of down. Just some thoughts to keep the thought generator working!! I am not a super-scientist.... I am just the village blacksmith!!
