hello friends ..I am new in Tig welding I need to ask what is the better TIG Torch I shud use with this welding machine Forney 324 190-Amp MIG/Stick/TIG Multi-Process Welder, 120/230-Volt Last edited by darsh; 02-18-2016 at 04:29 AM.
Reply:Yeah,Gee, I'm sure it can be a little tricky for some of these units to actually do TIG. I mean, Everlast has some MTS units that have the HF and gas solenoid ready-to-go, but Forney doesn't even seem to have a TIG torch bundle for units like this. So, I think it would be good for you to decide how you want to initiate the arc, either with an amptrol device, a custom-wired contactor switch at the torch, or just having a hot tungsten electrode at all times for scratch starting.I mean, it will undoubtedly be somewhat of an inelegant TIG setup, but with a TIG torch similar to the one below (that one linked to is a 26 series, which is a little heavier, but a lighter 17 series bundle can be had too), you could get it going. You see that brass adaptor for the gas hose is also where a negative lead from the machine will clamp onto, and will undoubtedly be best to then be insulated at that location. The gas hose also has the power cable inside it, and you open the gas valve to flow and stop the Argon. At his point you would have a hot lead at the tungsten, much like a Stick electrode, if I'm understanding correctly how the Forney unit allows for DC TIG as an added process. Again, it's not an elegant solution, but one that is probably not too uncommon.Otherwise, Forney does seem to have a foot pedal for their "multi-process" units, which may be helpful as a contactor switch, even though that's not an imperative requirement, and DC TIG welding also doesn't really call for an amptrol device, either. But, for about $200, it may work nicely as a contractor switch and an amptrol device, but I'm not absolute sure about that.Anyway, take a look at the photos and links. Maybe somebody who has actually set up one of these newer Forney "multi" units for TIG will post their firsthand experience. Otherwise I'm just suggesting what I would do if I were attempting to achieve your objectives and goal of DC TIG welding on a unit like that. And, please let us all hear back what works for you in this regard.https://www.forneyind.com/store/deta...ss_mp_welders/http://www.amazon.com/WP-26FV-25R-Co...TBFHP4C2WF20YW
