Hi gang !  I got my new Syncrowave 210 in the shop and have made a few stick passes with 80T AC Plus rod and Lincoln 5P 6010.  I can't believe how well it runs stick !  It made me feel like a better welder.  I made my first TIG passes with 12Ga 304 stainless coupons that came from our scrap pile at work.  I'm pretty happy I only had to re-grind the tungsten 2 times.  The first time I got into the base metal, the second time I hit the tungsten with the filler rod.  I know I need to work on consistency, and get lots of seat time.  Anyways, please have a look and all suggestions are welcome ! Some more info : Syncrowave 210, 3/32 tungsten that came with the machine, about 20 CFH argon, all beads ran between 95-110 amps.  Pulse turned off.  The last two pics are of a T joint weld.I was really happy with the last sectionof the first T joint weld on the left side....it looks pretty !!I had some sugaring on the back side of the lap welds.  I'd imagine having the coupons attached to a welding table would help transfer some heat, and I wouldn't have as much of an issue.I welded these all clamped in a Vice Grip C clamp, held in an old wood top workmate table....I have a top for a welding table, just need to build some legs.
Reply:That's not bad for your very first time. Well done. You say you are running 20cfh. What is your cup size? 20cfh may be too much. The calculation I use is 2 to 3 times the cup size. For instance a #6 cup would be 2x6=12cfh minimum, to 3x6=18cfh maximum, so we set our gas to the mean at 15cfh. Don't forget cups are measured in by 16ths of an inch, so a #6 is 6/16ths or 3/8ths inside diameter.Last edited by shovelon; 11-12-2014 at 12:57 PM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:Match, good job man, keep it up. Stainless Tig is one of my favorites. Try lay wire technique and quickly do a whipping motion (forward and back) with the tungsten. At 100 amps with correct travel speed you should get a pink salmon color weld, or also "your golden" look. Dark Blue color or grey colors are not what you are looking for. Gas lens grade of stainless and correct gas can also effect the color of the weld. For me I sharpen my tungsten needle sharp grinding way back about an inch. I feel this works best for scratch start on stainless. Look on the back side of weld (bottom) make sure there is no (sugar) powder residue or bleed through. You have to move super fast with stainless or things will go wrong. Try a (heatsink) copper, brass, aluminum on backside of weld. For your first time you will be there before you know it. Never give up.
Reply:Looks like you are off to a pretty good start. Good advice above.Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
