Hello Everyone,I work for Harley Murray, a low bed trailer company and I was just wondering if any of you guys have ever used E-11018 and E-10018 Electrodes?  If so what kind of manipulation would work best just drag it or little up and down motions?  I mainly weld the equalizers and break hangers, and I use .035 solid wire MIG, but sometimes when we are really busy they send me to weld the mainframe and they mainly use .035 wire but stick weld when it's hard to get the MIG gun in there....  I have a 4 inch pipe and 6 inch pipe 6G certification and a 3G,4G 7018 certifications so I'm just saying I'm comfortable with my stick welding ability.. I'm just asking for any insight as I have never used these rods before and it would be nice using them with some information in my noggin...  Is it similar to 7018?   Thanks so much fellas!!!
Reply:if i remember correctly the higher strength rods burn the same as 7018. maybe a touch slower but more or less the same. can you set up a test joint and run a few beads before the real deal?i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:It's been years since I ran any 110-18. Last time I ran it was to repair a broken fork for a 966 loader. I remember it ran just like 7018. I pretty much always run a side to side motion for vertical up. Or a up and down motion for everything else.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Pretty much the same as 7018. Its more  important to watch interpass tempeture and stringer width than 7018 tho.
Reply:They weld just the same as 7018 to me.
Reply:Very high impact strength - good, therefore, on a job I did recently, 10018 to rebuild a badly broken edge on an anvil.  Preheated the anvil to around 225 deg.  Ran fine laying down overlappping stringers to overbuild the edge, then ground back to a nice 90 deg edge.  I would have used 11018 to get just that bit of extra tensile strength, but 10018 was what I had.  I agree with the others about the rod running about like 7018.     -Marty-
Reply:it is an easily weldable wire often suffer Weldox 500 , Hardox. if you follow the rules : stringers weld, interpass , preheating it will succeed .
Reply:It isn't very ductile. Preheat is going to be critical. Normalize after. Do you need the tensile strength? It won't do to get a break right beside the weld because of all the stress as it cools.
Reply:The manipulation is identical to E-7018 but the higher tensile strength rods have more of a sluggish puddle. Bump up a few amps and let it flow. -Hillbilly
