thinking of making a purchase

Someone I know is selling a complete oxy acetylene set w/victor torch and full tanks (not sure of size, he says 4ft ox and 3ft ace bottles, also he has a like new lincoln 180c with a 75/25 bottle (also not sure size, he says 3 ft)What would you pay? This is a coworker/friend so want to be fair for both sides. I was thinking around 700 for the mig setup and 300 for the oxy/ace set, for a grand total of 1K. There is also a ~75cu ft CO2 tank and some random sticks of steel included.Input?

You have to start somewhere. There is a risk in buying used mechanical / electric equipment. Reply:These were used in a hvac shop of some kind, not really sure specifics but the welder looks to have low use. The owner died unexpectedly and his wife is selling his stuff.Good call on making sure the tanks are not rented! I will have to check that.I personally don't like the barter system, even though it works for me sometimes. I prefer to just buy new and not have to dicker or worry about surprises. But this deal is not so much bartering as making sure no one is screwed, buyer or seller.I didn't know the guy who owned this stuff but all his equipment is good and well maintained, he had some very expensive a/c machines and auto diagnostic tools. The welder and oxy/ace is low value compared to a lot of the stuff he had.
