I just got handed weldanpower 150 code no.8680 with a b.s. Engine from my grandfather .the motor runs great but it wont generate, my father told that a generator mechanic here in puerto rico told him to give a shot of 12volts in one of the receptacles.i took the risk and did that it started generating and welding(the voltae is low) i messed around with the throttle adjusment and got better readings. But when i turn it off and then on again it wont generate, then i'll do the same process to get it running. I'd really appreciate anyones help ........Note: I have cleanded the brushes ,holder ,slipring and cleanded all contacts and i feel the machine got alot better.... I don't know much about this butt i think its the signal that come's from the motor .
Reply:if you hang out for a little I know someone will post a link to get all the factory manuals from online free, you can also goto the lincoln websight and search for product info and thats also free, sorry i dont have the link avail..
Reply:Welcome to the forum gordoflow. You've covered a couple of the important basic issues by cleaning the slip rings and making sure the brushes are free.Do you have the manual for the unit? If not, you can download it here http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...t.aspx?p=31658 so you can have the wiring schematic to refer to.It's also important to confirm the engine speed is adjusted correctly for proper weld and generator output. Proper unloaded engine speed is 3700RPM that should provide 75VAC Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) at the weld output studs under no load. You are correct, the unit gets the initial rotating field (rotor) exciter voltage from the engine generator output (yellow arrow). You should get 12VDC +/- between this wire and the engine block with the engine running at weld speed.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:No output on the charging coil in Briggs engines is a very common issue. Unfortunaly the solution is a little more difficult and includes removing the flywheel and replacing the stator coil underneath. It's not to hard to do, but look carefully and see if you can determine the original cause of failure before you replace it or you will do it again. The parts are easily obtained from the local lawn mower shop if you provide model, serial and type number they will be able to get it pretty quick and painlessly. There is also a diode type component in the harness, make sure you check it and replace it if needed when you do the coil. It is an often overlooked cause of failure and makes the new coil fail frequently. Good luck, hope this helps.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?
Reply:I agree 100% Bob and identifying the flashing diode was my very reason for asking gordoflow if he had the manual/wiring schematic. Hand in hand with that would be the field voltage rectifier and capacitor(s).gordoflow, should that flashing diode fail in a short condition (pass current in both directions), high field voltage can backfeed to the engine charging stator causing it to fail (burnt winding) as Bob pointed out. Fail in an open condition (no current in either direction) and the initial field exciter voltage required to start the power output process wouldn't be there. Easy fix either way.If the engine stator windings are damaged from a backfeed, it is not a difficult job to repair or even rewind it if necessary or desired. I don't know how available magnet wire is in your area but the proper material could certainly be obtained on-line if needed. However, if there is no short or open in the windings, there is no need to concern yourself with rewinding.Do you have a volt/ohm meter? Do you know how to test diodes? Do you know how to check windings for shorts/opens?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Can also just skip the puller and put a a stick of wood or pry bar behind the flywheel and give the shaft a sharp rap just protect the threads or put the nut back on and it should pop right off the tapered shaft. You'll want a new key when going back together with it.
Reply:Hey every body got to taking the flywheel off .....its all busted up back there tried to put up some fotos but dont understand this much........special thanks to fixalinc tried every thing but the piece of wood was the secret jajajaj........but not sure whats the name of the piece behind the flywheel ..............how much does it cost??????? $$$$$$$$$$$ahhhh would appreciate any help with the pictures..

Reply:I don't think I do but let me look.I would hold off ordering one as you can just use a small battery to excite the field to get power output started. Check eBay too as I'm sure you can pick one up there for less than a new one but it may take a little while to find one.Have you considered attempting to save the old one? I can't tell for sure if it's possible from the photos but it appears it may be too bad.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:look threw ebay no luck......with the battery does it have to be connnected at all time to the yellow wire you illustrated for me in your picture?????
Reply:Here's a couple DC only output stators that will fit your engine and I'm pretty sure they would work for exiciter voltage but I have to look into it.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IThttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:ITTo use a battery you only have to connect the positive to the yellow wire momentarily until the unit starts to produce power. The negative needs to be hooked to the engine/welder frame.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:ok let me know on the stators thanks for the help again............. very thankful
Reply:The DC only output stator will do the job. They are virtually the same stator but just include a diode to rectify the normal AC current making them a DC output . As such you'll have dual diodes in your flashing circuit but the system won't be affected by the minor additional voltage drop across the second diode. You could also use either side of the dual circuit stator PN 393474 but not the 10A unit PN 393295 that uses a voltage regulator. If you choose to check out the eBay option and the seller won't ship to Puerto Rico, let me know.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Edit...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:having no luck with the stator just going to have to order one from a B.S. dealer here in p.r.............
Reply:Did you order one yet? If not I suggest you hold off ordering the $60 part.I just converted my sons' (Brink M.E.) Weldanpower 150 to electric start tonight and the dual circuit stator (one is AC the other DC) I installed in place of the AC only works just as expected to excite the field.AC/DC dual circuit on the left, original AC only output on the right.Original AC only stator. I forgot to take a shot of the dual circuit installed but you get the idea.Starter installed and all back together. Test run proved both AC and DC outputs excite the field just fine should you find a dual circuit or DC only locally. I still have to finish hooking everything up in addition to finish building the battery box.If you're interested, I'm sure we can come to a mutual agreement on the AC output stator I took out to install the dual circuit needed for charging the battery in the electric start conversion. If you want to fix it, you're going to have to pull the rotor to get it done.
