I purchased a hobart mvp 210, and i noticed that the wire shorts when the ground is touched even when the trigger isnt pressed, ive welded with other migs that the wire does not short untill the trigger is pressed, im running solid wire on dcep? can someone tell me whats wrong?
Reply:Contactor may be stuck. Pull the cover, locate the contactor and look at the contact points.
Reply:If you pull the trigger and then touch it to the grounded item it will spark. Reply:Ok i pulled off the machine cover and i noticed when i turn the machine on the contactor automatically clicks, and stays stuck. i pulled a connector which i believe gives it power so that the contactor does not click, now the wire does not feed but its not hot either. i think the connectori pulled is only sopposed to give power to the contactor on demand of the mig gun, am i right? unfortunatley this wire goes to a harness that goes on the main circuit board. What do you guys think, is there some sort of calibration issue here?
Reply:Take it back and get a new one before you go to far and the won't take it back.Miller Pro 300 SS w/ cat Miller Bobcat 250Miller Diversion 165 Miller 211Miller Xtreme 375Miller 12vsMiller Dynasty 200 DX Miller Passport Plus w/ Spool GunMiller 30a spoolmaticLincoln AC225 Buzz Box VictorMathey Dearman - H&M

Reply:Well, when i turn on the machine you can here a strong click, the wire is hot with the mig gun, spool gun, and with the switch control disconnected.

Reply:oh it arcs and burns the wire to the tip, with the cover off i saw that the contactor makes contact once i turn the machine oni
Reply:Is this intentional by Hobart or a possible defect?  Anyone contacted Hobart about it yet?Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
Reply:Ok took it to the local service center, the guy tested it with a voltmeter and said "yep its hot" most probably the circuit board. So I'm waiting. This machine is brand new, its just a defect from factory i guess.
Reply:Could be a defective gun  trigger switch or shorted control wires in the gun lead.  Disconnecting the control wire lead from the socket on the face of the machine would have helped determine if you had a defective gun causing the contactor to pull in.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:yea i tried that, i new it was the machine and not the trigger on the mig or spool gun. thats when i decided to take it to the service center

Reply:Glad you bought a brand that services and supports their product. Reply:Ok, I got the machine back and  it turned out it was a crossed wire connection on the pc board. This was discovered when a new pc board was put in and the poblem continued.
