I ordered a bunch of hypertherm consumables and all the line items were 220XXX part numbers, but I got sent one line item with a 120XXX part number. Tried calling about it and they are closed. It's not a big issue it can wait until tomorrow, it's just a hassle and I'm venting. Mistakes happen we will see how they resolve it. I have faith that they will because I have ordered with them before, and trust the source. It's just the hassle that mow I gotta ship it back and get the correct parts. I'm not in any tush for consumables. So there is no down time. Ooh well thanks for letting me vent.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.

Reply:I buy all my consumables on line. The lws around here has high prices, 4 times higher in some cases. If that's not enough. they add a hazardous material charge to the bottom line, of $1.10. The only thing I get locally is gases. I just bought gloves, sleeves, tungsten, collets and cups. Last year I bought 2 helmets, and I plan on buying more.
Reply:I do almost all of my consumables online too. My LWS does do me a good deal on mig and tig wire/filler as well as my Q gun consumables so I get that locally. Order all my plasma consumables from China.. Very satisfied with the ebay seller (3 shop river) I use for those.. several orders already and then even did direct paypal for a custom list of what I wanted...Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I buy as many consumable online as I can. I recently bought a pack of 10 flap disks for $11 shipped to my door. They don't last as long as the $8 Dewalts at Lowes, or the $12 version at my LWS.... but........ at a buck a piece......... I'll buy them again.......Even if they "screwed" me and only shipped me 5..... still a deal.....Gas and filler rod.... and 7018.......... I go to my LWS........When I really need sound advise on what to buy because I'm too ignorant to know.... I go to my LWS and buy my first item from them....... because they helped me learn....Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Yeah I attempted to buy my consumables local but Praxair has the market locked down for all of az. They did not have what I needed and I had to pay for the consumables pay shipping and taxes. So I said screw it I'll order them online shipping is way cheaper, and no taxes. Reply:Well, I suppose some online retailers are technically local, or at least small operations in and of themselves. But I know there are many welders and fabricators on this forum who bemoan the loss of craftsmanship in today's consumer economy - I'm one of them. Not buying local and supporting your neighbor in general in order to save a couple of bucks is part of what's killing the small business man and craftsmen everywhere. It all tied together. If that kind of thing just doesn't concern a person then nothing I can say will change that. So be it. But I hear so many people complain about not being able to support a family on a single income any more, or what happened to all of the manufacturing jobs?! or anything along those lines - and then they turn around and buy Chinese goods, typically from a big multinational corporation and they don't put the two things together in their conscious minds. Rant off. Thank youLincoln Squarewave 175Ex-aircraft sheet metal guy

Reply:I see your point, but when the "local" store has to order it in, then turns around charges you almost double, shipping, and taxes. What is someone supposed to do? I prefer local, and do not mind spending a few $ more, but when I'm paying $25 (plus shipping) for 5 plasma nozzles online and paying $45 ( plus shipping and taxes) and will be doing that on a regular basis for years it's really hard to stick with local. I get the taxes thing, they have no choice, but charging me shipping on something they are already gouging me on the price sorry I won't do it.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:Its a little different for Zap, as its not his money that is getting spent. Reply:For the pro welder that goes to the lws weekly I can see that it might work out well for them. They see your face often enough to know you by your first name. They will cut you a deal on items because they want you to come back again. I've heard stories about the lws letting someone take a brand new machine home to try it out for a few days to see if he liked it. Do you think that they will do that for the rest of us? Hell no, For someone like me, that only needs an item once in a while, online is the only way to go,sorry.
Reply:I understand the issues with the average lws and how they don't even seem to want the little guy's business, but the problem is larger than that. Eventually everything, absolutely everything will be in the hands of a very few, very large companies because eventually, mom and pop can't compete with the Amazon's of the commercial world.Lincoln Squarewave 175Ex-aircraft sheet metal guy

Reply:My LWS said just buy it from our online store you can save 10%+. I talked to them about online pricing vs walk I pricing. They don't do any paperwork with the online order. It gets dropped shipped straight from the manufacturer. I told him straight up I am not trying to be an *** but I can buy all of my consumables online significantly cheaper then with them. I did a 5 minute Google search and showed them the AVERAGE price. Not the lowest the AVERAGE. They matched it as a walk in. I will keep what shop as my supplier any day. I don't buy much but what I do buy I will buy local until I start buying China crap from the local guy.

Reply:I'm poor.. I buy my tig consumables online. I buy my import plasma consumables at harbor freight..I drive 45minutes to my not so local lws (WeldRite) for wire and gas, because they are friendly and want my business.. Because my lws ,Airgas, completely sucks with 200% markup.. I'll never set foot in another Airgas.. My next machine purchase might be from WeldRite, because they have bent over backwards for me and a friend.. They actually want your business and it shows.. gotta do what you gotta do..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
