"i have an older lincoln gas powered welder needing some work and cables. it has a 16 horse briggs motor, and is a 200 amp ac/dc. it is complete but needs a little work to get it running again. the motor is not locked up but i think it needs a head gasket. "found on Craig's List. He is asking $150. I am interested becuase it is a gas engine powered one, I don't have 220VAC available. And this is really above my max budget, but if it is a good deal I could squeeze out that much money. I don't want to contact the seller before I have a clue what this would be and it's worth. Thanks,Russ
Reply:Thats $1500. if it had been $150 i w ould have said buy it..
Reply:Hmm, just looked at the ad again and it says $150. Is the one you are talking about the one in Newark, Oh?Thanks,Russ
Reply:Well, to answer my own question, it IS a Lincoln Weldanpower. Not sure yet of the exact model, or any other numbers. It is sitting sideways in my Blazer SUV and I am not getting it out soon. Maybe later tonight or tomorrow, too tired from going and getting it right now(lack of sleep isn't helping)And the price was $150, but I gave the guy $160 since he didn't have change and it was my fault I didn't stop to get some. I am going to have lots of questions. This does need work.Anyone have a clue where the wire in the bottom picture goes? The seller thought that this was why you couldn't strike an arc. I couldn't see any obvious connector to match it to. Going to be doing lots of searching here. need to find out the exact model for starters. :-)Thanks,Russ Attached ImagesLast edited by russ69coupe; 08-06-2010 at 05:30 PM.
Reply:This will be easier once I get it out of the back of the Blazer. :-)My immediate goal would be to get it working, and then make it pretty later. But that is going to depend on money, cause I don't have any more to spend on this right now. I also want to put it on wheels, but without a working welder I don't know if bolting together some angle would be strong enough for a frame under it. Reply:Russ69Coupe,Member Duane55 did a really well documented restore on a Weldenpower that looked very similar to yours a year or so ago (http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=30753) that might give you an idea on a place to start. He also has a more current thread on adding electric start and running gear (http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43696). Good luck getting your machine running, looks like its not in too rough of shape. You got a steal for $150, especially if just needs a little work.If it doesn't fit, you aren't hitting it hard enough!Miller AerowaveMiller Radiator 1A4.5" DeWalt (with the paddle switch!)Jackson NexGen Helmet
Reply:Thanks.Yeah, his and Ken's threads on their restorations was what got me interested in these in the first place. This one already has the electric start, which is where I need to start troubleshooting, assuming it wasn't just my battery being low. I don't know how much work this is going to take, am hoping for not much. Well, am hoping for not much in the way of money. I don't mind the work part. Russ
Reply:russ69coupe - I bought one of these new in 1980. Since your machine is so apart note that the first several hundred produced had a faulty pilot bushing that results in the rotor to crank draw bolt shearing at the thread to shank point of the draw bolt. Because this flaw became a factory recall you might be able to check your serial numbers with Lincoln to see if you are one of the lucky ones. Opus
Reply:Thanks, I'll check that out. Russ |
