I have a Lincoln sp170t that i have had for a while and all of a sudden it has stopped working. I still get an arch but it is not much of one. My brother who welds way more than me looked at thinking it was a ground issue. We checked all the connections and even replaced the ground but to know avail. No matter where I put the heat setting it gives off only a small unusable spark. Everything else works on the welder. The fan, the feed, etc... I am thinking that the transformer in the unit has gone bad but am unsure how to verify this. Please help!!Thanks in advance!!!!
Reply:Open up your gun and see if the internal conduit has pulled out. This is likely all gun related especially if you tend to pull the machine around with it.
Reply:Are you talking about where the gun cable slips into the welder case? I have already checked that and it is where it is supposed be. I took it out cleaned it and reinserted it and nothing.
Reply:I think he means the other end. :-) The gun itself, check to see if the cable has come loose inside of it. RussRIP Mallory, we miss you.
Reply:yes. pull back the rubber boot at the welder end. look in the slit where the trigger wire come out. you may find the weld conductor all pulled apart. This is for a lincoln gun. |
