I was searching Craigslist and came across the following: Lincoln DC arc welder w/Continental F163 gas engine for $700.00. Thing is, I don't know anything about this unit, what to look for that could be wrong, or if its overpriced. I would like to get a DC arc welder in the 150amp range, and have been pricing units that are welder/generator types. Don't necessarily want the generator part as I don't plan on leaving my garage. I don't have room on my service for a dedicated 50 amp 220 line to the garage, the welder would be the only thing on it. So, any opinions out there about whether its better to spend the $ on having the service upgraded or going with an engine driven welder? If engine driven, what type won't break the bank? Thanks in advance for any help.
Reply:ITs a lincoln SA200 engine driven welder, It doesn't have AC aux power anyways, and its definately NOT the type of machine you want in your garge....
Reply:I have one of those, an sa200 lincoln.Great welder but watch out what you plug into the simplex 120v outlet. It's DC only and any variable speed power tool (drill etc.) will smell funny, let the smoke out and die in a few minutes. Please don't ask me how I know this. Single speed tools seem to run fine as do light bulbs.
Reply:i would suggest upgrading ur service. you will be way happyer with a electric machine in your garage than a sa 200. there loud smell bad and take up way to much space. kinda like mother in laws.
