hi guys ,still having a bit of trouble with the root run on the 5g,but nearly there, our welding inspector wants a 4mm gap in the 6"sch 80,root run 95ish amps 2.4 filler wire, free handing from 6 pm to about 8 pm then walking cup to 12,little bit lumpy the reinforcement,do a hot pass with tig then fill out with 77s then a 2.5 77 cap,cap is pretty tough with a couple of bits undercut and missed edges but getting there, the reinforcement gets bigger due to the passes and cap,the bottom root run contracts down and the top sinks down, aiming for the reinforcement to be smooth and consistant,i know guys are saying a 3.2 gap would be ideal, but our inspector states it and he doesnt like the cup method but hey,any ideas guys
Reply:For you to get a good reply- They are def gonna want to have pictures or more info. I can understand frustration if going through carbon pipe. I have a tough time running the 5/32 root gapJust be pretty specific about most things your working with... What size tungsten? What material? Landing? etc
