Anybody know how to put a roll in 14ga tread plate without expensive equipment?

I am looking to put a three inch radius in fourteen gauge tread plate. I looking for a 6" half pipe shape. Anyone know how or any ideas?

Reply:Take a 6" piece of pipe and cut it in half then clean the sharp edges off of it so it don't scrape anything up. Tack a half to a piece of plate and now you have a die. Take your plate and lay it over the die and either press it with a slightly smaller piece of pipe, beat it easily with a smaller piece of pipe, and if you really have to go complete poor boy put everything on the floor and hang on to something and stand on everything and use your body weight to press it in. Reply:Am I reading it correctly that it is a 6" long piece of 6" 'halfpipe?'  How accurate a bend, and in the final part, do other features restrain the shape, or is it completely freestanding?  If other features hold the shape, you don't need to be as accurate - you can always pull the final bit with clamps, then weld it together.  I'd be more inclined to bend that around the outside of something, rather than the inside.  I'd start with a piece of 4" pipe, as there will be a bit of springback - tack the end of your 14 gauge to it, then tack a piece of bar or tube to the other end, for a long handle.  Now, walk around it.Last edited by bassboy1; 12-27-2014 at 02:18 PM.Who is John Galt?

Reply:Can you get a hold of a piece of schedule 5 or schedule 10,  6" diameter pipe and just cut to length and then slit it? Or do you have a critical tolerance"Rolling those diameters is a pain in the butt. If I had to make a bunch of them I would probably setup a male and female die for the press and hit it a couple times in different spots, to get a nice curve to it.                       Sincerely,                            William McCormick

Reply:I just realized he needed diamond plate, so they would have to be rolled or pressed. You really cannot roll a half round very nicely on any power roller I know of. No one wants to roll diamond plate, on their roller. It leaves marks sometimes. You can press them though. Reply:I used a comealong to bend these fenders. 3/16" I'm sure if you get creative you could do the same
