No puddle on low end fine adjustment

ok so welder was working great two days ago, today went to run a scedule 40 8in and the stupid thing closed up, usually i run higher fine adjustment in 1st gear because i usually have a decent keyhole and dont need any "dig". But today i went to bump it up to 2nd gear about 35 to get more dig so i could push in the root and it would barely weld. Like it wouldnt form a puddle just melt the rod. yet it runs fine and hot in the upper fine adjustments. Would this be a ground issue with a bad connection or what?kinda pissed cuz had the best root i ever laid rockin in and then it wouldnt dig out on the closed section. it was between 2-4 on the pipe

Reply:Alright...youre gonna have to walk me through how to do that...im gonna assume thats the problem since it rained yesterday and the welder is on the back of my truck with the bottom of the exciter cap is open

Reply:i kinda felt it worked the other way around.    i thought the lower the fine, the more flowy, and the higher the fine- the more sparsy

Reply:i cant read it, but i believe you.    iobviously  musta been wrong.    somethings  wrong w/ one of my machines, cuz it has hard time keeping xx10 staying lit w/ fine rheostat in lower positions.    thats why i wrongly thought what i did.   sorry if i accidently fooled anyone.      i didn't mean to, i only lie when i need to
