So, I needed some target stands (I've made this design before, so nothing new there).  I decided to TIG weld these instead of MIG since I need the seat time with TIG.  Welding machine and settings: TB302, HF251D, water cooled torch, 1/16 E3 tungsten (ground short and sharp), #3 gas lens, 1/16 ER70S-2 filler, 90 amps, 11cfh 100% argon.  The stands are made out of 1/16th wall 1x2 rectangular mild steel tube. The stands are a pretty basic design, they hold 1x2 lathe vertically with 1/4-20 thumb screws.  Two of the lathe holders are closer together for smaller targets, the two furthest out are for larger targets like the military M9 silhouette targets. One of the crappier welds:Got back into the swing with some time and the welds got better although I clearly still need a lot of practice (a hundred hours or so and maybe I'll have it reasonably well). Figured these were good practice since they're not structural, don't handle any load, etc...:"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Looks nice man. Shoot away. You got a foot pedal on that trail blazer?
Reply:Good stuff. The foot pedal connects to the HF box (251D in this case).GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:sure is nice work to put out back and shoot full of holes (someone will shoot it)
Reply:What size cup did you use on this?
Reply:looks good! i been thinking on making something up for myself. . . . .might have to borrow your pics for a while lolmy dad (dont ask him to weld) made some out of 2" pvc that work ok too using 2x2 wood for the verticals (you have to round the corners a bit to get them into the pipe)bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Addendum .  I went to the hardware store to buy some 1/4-20 1.5" long thumbscrews.  They only had 4, they flat parts were much smaller than I was used to, and they were $2.75 a piece 0_o so...some 1.5" long SS 1/4-20 bolts, and some 3/8-16 wing nuts and back to the TIG.  Same settings as above but just fused, no filler.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
