My boss at work owns a gym. He brought me this motor off a treadmill that the motor mount had come off of. It looked like the mount had holes in it and it was welded through to the motor. Only one of the welds looked like it had any penetration, the others all failed at the weld.I drilled the base back out, ground everything as clean as possible and re-welded it. I couldn't tell how thick the motor housing was, so was a little worried about burn though. It seems to have welded up ok, but I guess I won't know till he gets it reinstalled.Seems like bad engineering to me.
Reply:With any luck you didn't melt the winding insulation, but it doesn't look like there really was too much heat. Jim
Reply:Looks fine to me. As for thickness all you had to do was look at the fan holes. I can see them in the pics.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I wonder if the issue is they welded through the paint on the motor.AHP AlphaTIG 200DX (2nd Gen)Lincoln WeldPak 3200HD Bird Poop GeneratorLotos LTP5000D Plasma Cutter

Reply:I have seen it done in the good ol days with stick 6013 and the motor running to keep cool, seen it multiple times, no problem.steel was probably better but not thicker. |
