The dreaded 2" sch 160 SMAW test

I have this test today for company I would really like to get some money from, so wish me luck. Who in the **** doesn't TIG the root. I would be gravy if I could TIG the root. I'm taking the old SA-200 with me, hope they don't get weird about it being on a trailer. I'll leave the Vantage in the truck and hand start the Continental just to confuse them.Constant Current Weldor.

Reply:They told me I would use their welder. Ok I said. Went around back, and I had my choice between a Miller Dialarc 250 or Bobcat 250. No arc control, no practice, no joke. They are sending it out to be x-rayed for ASME. I'm glad I got enough work.Constant Current Weldor.

Reply:Should be an easy test with any of those machines. I agree that you should get a little time if they want you to use their welder. Hate to say it but for the 7018 part id take the vantage all day long.Good luck
Reply:I took the same test yesterday I was dreading it too. Usually they require tig root n hot, but not this time I had to p5. I figured out the trick with putting a nice bead in the heavy wall coupon. You can run a big gap with no land and still whip it in there nice Bc the walls can take the heat and not have to worry about it falling In.
