I currently have a HF 4x6 bandsaw. I need to dial it in since the cut is a bit off and put a new blade on it which i dont feel like doing at the moment.I was all set to buy the Rage 2, but i started thinking The rage 2 is basically going to be very similar to my bandsaw to where the rage3DB can do a lot more. I think the rage3 + bandsaw would make me much more well versed. My concern about the rage3 is the build quality and reliability (ie accuracy staying true). The rage2 is much simpler so my theory is that it would cut more accurately.Rage3DB obviously cost quite a bit more, but the blades are also half the cost. Though the 1" arbor doesn't allow you to use normal 10" blades which sucks.Which would you guys recommend the Rage2 or the Rage3/Rage3db? From my research, looks like most here have the chop saw style.
Reply:I have the rage 2. It's fine although I had to loosen the saw from the table and add two shims toget a square cut .I bought it cheap, big box store had them on clearance, around $150.00 . Did you consider the Milwaukee or Dewalt ?http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DW872-1.../dp/B0000302QShttp://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-6190.../dp/B00023S336This is for reference, I did not do price check. I know there are many discussions on this.

Reply:I wouldn't buy another Evolution product due to poor quality. My saw has a plastic fence adjustment (handheld saw), and is continually vibrating screws and pieces off of it during use. I also wouldn't buy a 10" saw, just not enough depth of cut. I currently have a Dewalt and a Milwaukee 14" carbide dry saws. I like the Milwaukee better. Good blade life on both saws, so long as you clamp everything, and don't cut bundles.

Reply:The Milwaukee has a cast/machined aluminum base with a steel insert for the clamping section and the hinge. It is the heaviest of the bunch (dry carbide saws). I've had mine a year or two and have been through 3 blades. One of them died during an on Site carnival ride build / railing project due to me not clamping hard enough and had the drop (second cut of a fish mouth for 1.5" sch40). Before that oopsie, I had cut probably 40 cuts of 4" channel, hundreds of the 1.5" pipe, and a few hundred 1"*1"*1/8" square tube. It's heavy, it has a very rigid base/clamp/hinge, and is insanely accurate and repeatable. Also, in a pinch, you can drop in a 14" abrasive blade without changing a single part. If I had to buy it again, it would, without a doubt. But I wouldn't have bought all Milwaukee blades at the same time, and instead try other cheaper brands first. Reply:I've got the rage 3 I've had it for almost two years now. and the only complaint that I have is that I haven't gotten the blade sharpened yet and it needs it bad. I've built a shop, a fence, a deck, replaced cross members on my trailer, built a drill press stand, trailer dolly, welding table, etc etc etc with it and as long as you take the time to make sure that your blade is square and true, your cut will be too. Never trust the stops, or the dials on any saw. I do want to get the steel only saw, as that has had nothing but good reviews. There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Just wanted to give an update. I purchased the Rage3-DB and its getting sent back tomorrow. The reason I'm sending it back is round table that moves to do the miters is higher then the tables from the base of the saw.Which will make it impossible to get a straight cut when a piece is clamped. I also think the fit and finish is poor for the price. At $399 I expected better. Although i wouldn't have returned based on this alone. It looks like the saw would function just fine and work good if the stupid table was flush. I am not going to get a replacement. I instead ordered the Rage2 from Menards. They have it on sale for $199 right now. Total with shipping was $228.xx I may try ordering a Rage3 (non-db) version. At $250 the fit and finish wont bother me as much and i get get both the Rage2 and Rage3 for a bit more than DB version. |
