1948 SA200-162 crank start

I looked in the Lincoln site but could not find the correct procedure on how to hand crank one of these and don't want broken fingers or arm.I seen several different ways to start a tractor on youtube.Now that I freed up the 3 stuck exhust and 1 intake valves this is hard to crank.While I had it apart I wire wheeled and laped the valves.
Reply:choke on, mag on Kick start crank on the top. Then I just kick start it. There is no backlash once it starts, the crank lever simply slides out.
Reply:First thing, ALWAYS keep your thumb tucked in and NEVER wrapped around the handle. Use your other four fingers as "cup" to turn the crank and keep a position so that if the handle "kicks" it can easily leave your grip and also not strike your arm.When cranking, don't follow the crank around by pushing down from 12 o'clock on, only pull up from 6 o'clock on. Feel the engine around to have a compression stroke ready at about 7 or 8o'clock. Cup your hand under the handle and with all you've got make the next quarter turn really count.It'll take some familiarity with a particular engine to find the ideal choke settings and the type of priming cranks needed for various conditions.Good Luck
Reply:ThankYou for your help.I got it to start but I have got oil in #1 cly.Oil even blows out the exhust in a spray sort of.The cylinder walls look good,I think I have stuck oil ring.I guess the next step is to pull the pistons,hone the cylinder's and install new rings.
Reply:Well.I just added oil to the cylinder and rechecked the compression.With my kid watching the gauage,it went from about 50 to about 75psi.I reflashed it and it does weld.Hard to believe a 62 year old welder starts so easy(hand crank) and still welds.I used a 5/32 6010 as a test.Now that I know it welds its time to replace the rings.The motor does not knock or anything so I guess I can get away with just rings.
