What am I dealing with here

Gate broke off the hinges so I thought I'd clean it up a little bit and weld it back  without the huge pile of birdsh** on it and now I'm thinking I should of left the pile so I would have something for it to stick to. I'm guessing it's castLast edited by Tmtbob; 03-08-2016 at 08:26 PM.
Reply:Will a magnet stick to the ring? Since I see some rust, I am guessing the ring is a cast iron piece, brazing would be the easiest route.
Reply:That looks like 3/4 '' pipe on upright. I would cut that off and weld new 3/4 '' pipe on upright . Cut ring off and add 3/4'' pipe to it too. Now you'll have like a 3/4'' hinge, get a piece of 3/4'' rod or round to use for pin. You can stagger the pipe so the gate pipe rest on the upright on bottom.
