I've been working on a hot rod wagon for my granddaughter for awhile now. My wife said I should show it off here. I don't have many close up shots of the welds. This is the Facebook page that shows the progress. https://www.facebook.com/GrandpasCustomRadioFlyerThis week we took my granddaughter to the mall for her first ride. It was her or the wagon that seems to attract a lot of people. I say it was her she's a cutie Attached Images

Reply:It's 90% done. Just need to add a horn and mirrors. My son said it needs a trailer to haul the diaper bag (but I know how everyone picks on trailer builders LOL). As for how I'm going to top this, I've got a few ideas for when she's older. Right now I'm working on ideas for another wagon. Some good friends of my son announced they are having a baby, so I asked my son to help me build one for them. Attached Images

Awesome build and great design, like the use of woods and those monster wheels. That little cutie is sure riding in style. Way to go Grand Pa. I'm sure the parents are so proud to have it.

Reply:Originally Posted by cableguy344Attachment 633851Attachment 633861Attachment 633871Attachment 633881T.J I made the spindles. I took 2" square tube and cut one side off, drilled 1 hole for the axle and two for where the drop axle connects to it, for the axle I used a 3/4 allen bolt. I cut most of the head of the bolt off put it through the hole and welded the back side. The mono spring is non functioning, the leaves are plug welded together. I ran some flat bar through a roller to get the curve and welded it to the drop axle. The one shows how I worked out the rear steering, It was a last minute thing I added so it's not as clean of an install as I would have liked. I have one of the steering when I added the tie bars instead of just a flat bar but I can't find it on the computer right now. It's a shame you're not on Facebook, I have all the pictures there showing some of the extra details , like working head and tail lights. the convertible top, etc.The one picture is my son and daughter-in-laws reaction when I showed it to them.
Reply:That's correct. The wheels are from Harbor Freight. They are 2 piece, the bolts hold them together, they have bearing in them that ride on the bolt/spindle. Attached Images

Reply:My next one will start with 2 wagons with the back cut off of one and the front cut off the other then welded together end to end. Tube frame under it. Maybe a little narrower in the front and wider in the rear. Big and little wheels. Spoiler in the front and a wing in the back. Small butterfly steering wheel for a handle. Parachute on the rear probably labeled pampers. I'll paint it red and white but instead of it saying "Radio Flyer" with the little boy pictured on his wagon in between the words, it will say "Really Flying" with the boy on a stretched wagon but I will do the lettering and the boy in the same stock style though.
Reply:Cableguy334 and Rodney, Those are both pretty cool. The thought, the time spent, the money spent, and the will to see it through, make those even cooler. KB
Reply:What a awesome grampa, I love it. and the look on their faces when they saw it is priceless for sure. I wish I would have saw this before I sort of threw one together for the wife's fall project, the last minute notice of having to make one didn't help with the planning, it was just for looks though..

Reply:Nice looking wagon. Your daughter looks happy riding in it. I am almost finished with another I am working on as a present for a friend. The parents to be are both Purdue University grads. Brad graduated with an engineering degree so I made it four wheel steer. I figured he would thinking that part was cool Attached Images

Reply:I went over to your flickr page to check out the build photos, that's a really cool build along with top quality workmanship makes a truly cool ride. Even though it's not included in your parts list cableguy, love is the most plentiful element of this build. Basketball court bed on your 4 wheel steer unit is special, too. How about a gasser for your next build? You may have started a whole new area/era in custom building!! Not to discount the rest of the "Angel-ride power wagons" in the thread here, gentlemen, all are highly creative and well executed...a testament to your talents and hope that you can transfer those to the future generations through your creativity.
