Here is a project I've Been working at here and there when I've had time. A friend of my girlfriends has had this cart for a few years, it was made by a guy locally, so its unique. Its a sturdy cart but she found it to be un-useable due to the way it was designed, the shafts were too heavy for the horse. She wanted the balance issue fixed, solid wheels installed and the shafts changed over to wooden ones.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:I realized now I didn't take nearly as many pics as I thought... It had basic bike wheels that fit into the bike forks. The wheels that she had made needed bushings to be lathed to fit the width of the fork and the 3/8 bolt for the mount. I had to cut the forks off to move them ahead to take the weight off the shafts. I moved them as far a head as I could take them. Although this helped tremendously, the weight really didn't come off the shafts until you sat in it. After that work was done I cut the steel shafts off and waited until I got the wooden shafts to work with.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:These wooden shafts she bought are gorges. However they were not geometrically symmetrical, I had everything lined up with a measurements and angle finders and levels before I tacked my mounts but that's not how it worked out. I got them straight enough, but had to tweak things to make my steel line up right. Lots of busting tacks and do overs to get it right. The longest processes so far though was the paint job. It took me days to get the paint sanded off and stripped off. Also the original welder liked his bondo.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:Just found some of the pics I thought I lost. Here you can see the pockets I made and also how I started getting paint out of the corners before I discovered paint stripper.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:So here it is looking like a cart again. I Still need to get material for the seat webbing, some hardware, clear coat it, and all the final touches. They kept the floor boards. Said they would finish those themselves. The wood came from a 100 year old church that was torn down in a small town called Cherryville.Last edited by Doug247; 07-29-2014 at 10:58 PM.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:Few more pics for you guys. Bolted up a few more items, the horseshoe piece that holds the shock tubes straight, the dash and wooden plugs for top of the forks. Also the whip holder. Just did more touch ups and the clear coat. Just need to get the webbing for the seat and then we can do a test drive. I found the shocks to be a little stiff, I don't see a grease port on them so what I did was spray them with move-it, worked them a bit and let them sit again overnight.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:So here it Is with the webbing installed for the seat and the floor boards put back into place. Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
