Hi I am getting a dc tig and I was wondering if it is possible to run a spool gun on a dc tig welder.BTW the tig welder is a everlast 160sth.ThanksRichard
Reply:I don't know how it would work but whatever you do make sure you don't use high frequency current on a spoolgun.

Reply:Ok thanks
Reply:Hate to burst your bubble but yes you can and I have. You need a weld control like a wc-24 or wc-115. I used a dialarc with .063 wire and it worked , not the best. Trying to weld aluminum with only 160 amps probably wouldn't cut it.
Reply:There are wire feeders which attach to the tig torch and feed wire into the puddle, so yes they do exist, not really a spoolgun though since the spool is not handheld, just a wire feeder....Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I had a factory Profax Spoolgun setup on my Airco branded 330abp specifically for Aluminum. Reply:As said above, not really. There are always exceptions and some expensive eqipuipnent may allow you to get by. My optima gives an option of strictly producing CV for mig for a CC powersource (if I'm reading this confusing manual correctly). But you need thousands if dollars in equipment to try to make this work. I tries a regular mig feeder on CC and the results were less than spectacular.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum |
