Last Thursday a customer dropped in ... unloaded three rims and said I want a fire pit, I saw a picture but let me tell you this!! My response ... Okay do you mind if I spice it up with legs and a design.... That'll be fine! So today I kicked it out ... I wanted to make the rim look as if it had a tire on it with letters ... I had their personal info and went to work ... here's what they are getting.Last edited by blueriver; 01-27-2015 at 08:42 PM.Reason: spelling
Reply:nice, but doesnt seem like much room for any wood to burn...Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:Too nice to be a fire pit. Bet it's repurposed as a coffee table. Just add glass top.

Reply:Great job,  Ha, way to nice to get scratched up by logs and seared by far (Fire is spoken as "far" here in Tennessee - LOL).  Did you do the plasma work on it?  Where are you located?Last edited by Dale Salisbury; 01-27-2015 at 09:37 PM.Some kind of Big Blue constant current welding machineAnother smaller yet, Blue machine (it's got wire in it)

Reply:Originally Posted by blueriverThe opening is 10" by 12" the rims are 18" ... so it will take a a few logs ... I think its more for the evening fire, wine and mood !!

Reply:Don't let them pick it up till this weekend.  Winds out of the SW today at 25mph, gusting to over 30+.  Some moron will start a fire, and burn us all out.  Happened almost 3yrs ago, and it can happen again.  We lost the entire 80 acre hay meadow, part of the field where we live, and came within about 40yds of losing the house that evening.  It was under investigation at the time, but the investigation has pretty much died away.  Very nice work BTW.  Be cool to see the fire licking through the top of the rim."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:What is the finish?Powder coat?  Spray paint?
Reply:Originally Posted by MinnesotaDaveIt's also used for distance, as in: "That's a far piece away." As I recall from my time in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, it goes something like this:"I'm cheekin ma engine earl 'cause I'm fixin' to get ready to drive to the junction, which is a far piece from here."(here pronounced at hee-ya) Blueriver - Nice fire pit, I like it as a table too
Reply:Originally Posted by AlabassSorry to contradict you but the proper pronunciation for distance is "fer" (pronounced the same as fir or fur), as in "that mountain over there is a fer piece from here".
Reply:Originally Posted by BistineauIf you look close at the first picture, you can see where it is cut out below the top rim for the far to be built inside of the rims. The flames then come out through the holes in the top rim. The far is not made on the very top of the top rim, but rather down inside of the lower rims.
Reply:now that is a fire pit and a half ...i would love to see their reaction when you show them
Reply:Great job!!!! I don't think much of the paint will hold up

Reply:Originally Posted by roadkillbobbyou should cut the center out of the top rim to give more depth for the fire chamber, so if a breeze kicks up the glowing ambers wont blow away or onto someone, might also give heat lower down...nice job either way..

Reply:Originally Posted by tackitThat project is to pretty to burn logs in, his wife will probably use it for something else.Don't forget using the word pop for pipe.   I was walking to the fab shop and one of our cherry picker operators drove into the yard and asked me where the pop was he was to pick up for the #9 blast furnace job?   I said to him we don't have any pop here but there is a canteen in the steel mill,  after about two or three times I finally got what he meant and we both laughed our asses off. God love em, Southerners are the best people.

Reply:They also ordered this ..
Reply:When I got it cut I laid it on the firepit to send the picture .. The wife went OMG please add that to the firepit ... I told them the price and they said make another and I did!!
Reply:Now the flames will come up thru the rim and out the pattern. 12ga metal
Reply:They are driving 2 hrs tomorrow to pick it up ... I'll take some pics to post up!!
