How does everyone store their mig, tig, stick, oxy fuel welding leads? On your bench, cart, walls etc... Reply:thats a nice clean setup!!!!Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:i welded some short lengths of 5/8" round to a 3/8" flat and welded that to the blocked out window frame. it holds enough lead to go anywhere in the maint area. Attached Imagesi.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:jnl,That is a nice clean set up.   Looks very functional and easy and quick to load up when needed.   If it were mine I think I'd spend a few more $ and get some canvass covers made up to slip over  those lead and hose reels to keep the Sun and other elements off them.   Over the years I've worked with a lot of different portable welding set ups that had the welding leads and oxy-fuel hoses in absolutely horrible condition from being sun rotted and cracked.   If you keep them covered when not in use I'm sure it will at least double there useable life span and save you some $ over the long term.
Reply:Maybe RV tire covers slightly modified."I thank God for all the freedoms we've got in this country, I cherish even the right to burn the flag, but I'll tell you what, we've also got the right to bear arms and if you burn my flag I'll shoot you"-Johnny Cash

Reply:Originally Posted by SprockmonsterDid you use dinse connectors for the hose reels... I just may "borrow" your idea for my cart.... Its just a three tier aluminum rolling cart with arc welder and hypertherm powermax on top, and electodes and filler metal in the middle. Trying to keep the weight on the cart to a minimum but they are holding up really well.

Reply:thanks, i found i needed a skid with basic tools for the farming equipment repairs as dragging the trailer isn't good through the mud working in fields. I use this skid surprising more now that i have it and only take trailer for the more detailed work where more tools or processes are required. the cheap spool setup i have on skid and trailer is life/time saver in my books
Reply:Congrats on your skid.  Very impressive.  Did you get your reels at Northern , Tractor Supply?
Reply:I'm from Canada eh, lol, we have a place called Princess Auto, very similar to your Northern Tool, reels are reg price at 68.00 each but if you wait until onsale you can get them for about $35.00 Canadian

Reply:I keep my 25ft. Stinger and my 20ft. ground on the handles of my XMT 304 cart.  I keep my tig rig wrapped up around the valve of my argon bottle.  Foot pedal and short stinger to power my tig I keep on the bottom shelf of the cart.  I keep all my spare 1/0 lead coiled up in 25ft sections and zip-tie. I bent a piece of 0.65 stainless tubing into a 90° and welded it to the side of my cart.  That's where I coil up my mig gun.

Reply:Originally Posted by whtbaronHow long have you had the P/A hoses? I bought some with the HD cutting torch set and they were complete junk, so I never took the chance on the reel. Mine were kept inside, away from oil or sunlight, and used little but they still cracked apart in 2 yrs.
Reply:Another issue I had with the cheap hoses was that they were made to work with the cheap flashback arrestors... one male and one female end instead of both females. Using the arrestors with a conventional set of hoses required an adapter. Reply:jnl, I really like your skid, do you have any suspension mods to your truck?  I have a similar setup in my 1/2 ton silverado just curious about the added weight of the skid.  It would be sooo much nicer to load it all at once like that!  Great job btw!!Here's my skid I've been working on.  Fits in between the bed rails and wheel wells, enough room to have a gooseneck trailer attached as well.  Also nice to use with the telehandler moving it around the property.Last edited by Antibling; 01-30-2015 at 09:36 AM.
