My Power smith saw died so I bought a Milwaukee saw.  I followed the directions with the blade and the blade didn't last very long.  It said to apply more pressure to reduce sparks to extend blade life.  My blades lasted a long time when I pushed down with just the weight of my arm.  I cut mainly 23/8" and 2 7/8" pipe.  The blade said to cut 3/16" and thicker material.  I cut square tube like a diamond and angle iron point up as well.  Where does I guy find the best deal on a decent blade.  My first blade I bought for $88 then The best price for a MK morse was $169 from western welding supply in Medicine Hat, AB.  Most places want $190-220 for blades.  I am going to try and get my blades sharpened for about $30 and see if that works.  Any Advice would be appreciated.Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DC, Miller Big Blue 302P,  Lincoln Wire-Matic 255 Mig, Lincoln Pro-Cut 55,  Milwaukee Dry Cut 14" Chop saw, Miller Digital Elite Helmet

Reply:Hey CR,Jack gave you the info for the premiere dry cut saw blade.....the DIABLO. It is the best as I have use every other blade on the market & not any held up like the Freud Diablo. When I first started getting them, they were $32/ea. & they occasionally had specials, (6) for $140. I bought (6) for myself & (6) for the company I retired from, & when our company closed, the boss gave me those from work. I bought the HF blade sharpener & re-sharpen myself. Those blades give me 1200-1600 cuts before sharpening is needed. Oh, BTW..... NO STAINLESS CUTTING with those blades! Alum., brass, bronze, or ferrous steel only. Reply:That sounds like a good price.  The only problem that I have is that I am north of the 49th parallel.  I will see what it will cost to ship up here.  At that price might as well buy a few at a time.Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DC, Miller Big Blue 302P,  Lincoln Wire-Matic 255 Mig, Lincoln Pro-Cut 55,  Milwaukee Dry Cut 14" Chop saw, Miller Digital Elite Helmet

Reply:i bought a milwaukee and it came with the 72 tooth endurance blade it cut great the first cut and quickly went downhill from there. I got 16 total cuts out of the blade and now its dead. no chipped teeth no coloresd metal . I am waiting to see if tools-plus in CT is going to replace it. Some blades could just be bad.
Reply:i think the endurance blade is rated for 12 to 16 cuts thats about 8 to 10 dollars a cut
Reply:If you are cutting s/s, then you can expect to get premature tooth dulling unless you buy the proper blades. The blades for cutting s/s may cost nearly as much as a Smith saw.

Reply:Do not buy the evolution blades. I bought one a couple months back, made 12 cuts in 1/4 X 3" angle and all the teeth had the edges knocked off. I sent it back to Evolution because that was not acceptable. They sent it back saying it was normal. I then had it sharpened and it made 14 cuts in 3/16 X 1.5 angle and it was toast. I have been using the diablo and it works great, hundreds if not thousands of cuts ber sharpening. Reply:Great info on the Diablo blade. Just curious about the life of this blade compared to your standard abrasive blades from HomeDepot or Lowes?  Been purchasing those for years and never knew any better.
Reply:I love your chop saw workstation yorkiepap! It looks pretty tall though, maybe a bit over three of those red 14" blades tall? That would put the working surface over 42" high. Isn't that a bit far to be hefting lengths of material?Picture could be deceiving, but other than that, it looks fantastic! I may just copy it, but with a working height of 36" or so.

Reply:I have 3 blades on the way $55 shipping plus my taxes and what not when I pick it up at the post office.  Even if I have $70 a blade in them still cheaper than anywhere else.  Thanks guys.Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DC, Miller Big Blue 302P,  Lincoln Wire-Matic 255 Mig, Lincoln Pro-Cut 55,  Milwaukee Dry Cut 14" Chop saw, Miller Digital Elite Helmet

Reply:Originally Posted by Jack OlsenI've had mine since April of 09 -- so two years.  I built a wrought iron fence for my house (cut hundreds of pickets, as well as every lateral), and have done a host of smaller projects over that time (cover for where I par, cover for our patio, lots of stuff in the shop).  Just about any time I'm welding I bring the saw out.  I bought five of the blades, initially -- but I'm still on my first.  It just cuts and cuts and cuts.
Reply:Hey Raptor,That is correct......NEVER use a low rpm, dry cut blade(1300-1800rpm) in an abrasive saw(3500-3900rpm)!  That is a recipe for a DISASTER. All blades are marked with maximum rpm, so simply read the data printed on the blade. Also, the Diablo blades are not recommended for SS cutting. With proper technique(downward pressure), a C7 tung-tipped, dry cut blade will easily do 1200-1600 cuts before sharpening is needed, & sometimes more. Excessive pressure(hog-cutting) will ruin a blade in short order & cause the loss of the tung. teeth that may permanently destroy the blade where replacement of the teeth will be impossible. Reply:t-bone 12 to 16 cuts was a joke but it appears there are more than just me thats had a problem with the blade not lasting so i will  buy a different brand until one lasts then ill stick with that brand freud looks like the next choice
Reply:Originally Posted by RaptorDunerIf I remember correctly, you can't put a dry cut blade in an abrasive cut off saw. RPM's are way off and will ruin the dry cut and possibly yourself. Is this correct?
Reply:I've had good luck with Heleta blades (formerly Bullet). http://www.heleta.com/carbide-produc...orLanding/trueTheir 14" blades are rated up to 3500 rpm but I use them in my 1300 rpm dry saw. I also use the 7" blade (rated at 5800 rpm) in a circular and I have cut up to 3/4" steel plate by going slow and letting the saw do the work.Cut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Lucas? Prince of Darkness etc.The Heleta (Bullet Blades) are reasonably priced as well.  They have a 100T, probably better for thinner material, and a 66T blade.  Hopefully my Freuds get here but that 100T blade looks interesting as the 90T blades from other MFGs are recommended for thinner material.  The Powersmith blades I got with my first saw lasted a long time and I cut most everything with them not just thicker than 3/16".  They lost a pile of teeth but still kept cutting.  The motor died so I bought my Milwaukee.Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DC, Miller Big Blue 302P,  Lincoln Wire-Matic 255 Mig, Lincoln Pro-Cut 55,  Milwaukee Dry Cut 14" Chop saw, Miller Digital Elite Helmet
Reply:Sounds like the diablo is the way to go.  I am still unsure which 14" saw to buy however.  I am looking at the Northern Industrial saw from Northern tool and the Evolution Rage2 MP saw.  Anyone have any experience with either?  If not, any recommendations?  Thanks.
Reply:It seems Cripe Distributing no longer carries the Freud Diablo Steel Demon blades. Everyone else sells these for more than $100. Am I looking at the wrong blade (Freud Diablo Steel Demon D1472F?). Did some marketing guy discover the blades were great and jack up the price? At $100 are these still the blades to get? Thanks!
Reply:Cripe ran out of the blades. They are just a company that sells merchandise from companies that have gone out of business, so they won't be getting them back in. The blades were a deal at $40, but not so much at $100. You can buy the DeWalt blade on Ebay new for $100, and it is a much better blade. Most of the other brands can be had from $100- $140. Let me know if you find a good deal.
Reply:I noticed this too recently - can't find a replacement for my 12" makita for under $100 anymore. Luckily I don't need it yet but I wish I would have jumped on the ones cripe had when I had the chance!

Reply:I have used a Milwaukee 14" saw for several years. The original blade got me 1000+ cuts and will still cut with a couple of broken teeth and one missing. I tried the Freud blade and it lasted about 200 cuts maybe then quit cutting. I have a replacement Freud blade on the saw now but only have a few cuts on it so I dont know how it will hold up. The way I have always used my saw is, I apply very little pressure. I let the blade do the work. I havent cut any stainless, mostly square tubing of different sizes 1"-3". I wont waste my money on Freud blades.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.
Reply:Bro, The Freud blades work just fine but you need to make them work. Applying not pressure only allows the blade and material to heat up. With the freud blades, which have a lower grade carbide in them, the heat kills the blades. My longest lasting Freud was 2800 cuts on 1/2"round hot rolled. When I had my guys start doing the cutting they got about 200 cuts before the blade was bad. This was from banging the blade down too hard and before the saw came up to speed, or from too little pressure during a cut.Walker 32*
Reply:Thats interesting. My Milwaukee blade lasted for a long time by using light down pressure and letting the blade do the work. The Freud blade didnt do well at all.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.
