I am about to move about 400 miles.I have a 80 and a 55 cylinder.Argon/Co2 and pure Argon.I called my local gas supplier and they said, "sell them on Craigslist..."I tried that but it didn't work very well.(low ball $, weird questions)Can I just "empty" them with the regulator and transport them in my trucK?Movers will not touch them and no way for me to transport in upright position.Any advice welcome - stuck between a tank and a hard place. Thanks
Reply:I would make sure the valves are closed tight, caps on secure and haul them on thier side. No need to empty them. Make sure they will not roll around. Right or wrong thats how is done all over the country.Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal
Reply:how do you get them from the gas supplier to your shop? 4 or 400 miles same deal. argon and ar/co2 are perfectly fine to haul/use in any position.the moving company shouldnt have a problem moving them, my guess is you asked if they would haul them, which just asking, implies that it may be dangerous. i'll bet that they are moving your gas powered yard tools... those are more dangerous than some small inert gas bottles.

Reply:Gees the trucks that haul them are closed in box trucks, vented though, I don't see s problem at all ,must be the company
Reply:Thanks!I'm liking the "just take them with you idea!"Tossed them back on Craigslist - if I can get full value for them I'll let them go.If not I'll take them with me.

Reply:there is no problem moving bottles. you may have previously noticed welding supply trucks running around down with dozens of bottle rattling around in direct sunlight. It is not a problem. This is a recent run to my local welding supply. No worries.
Reply:Just don't brake to hard..... bottle will probably be fine, you wont!
Reply:Get an old wood trunk that locks and put the bottles in it. Load 'er up boys!
Reply:Move them the same way you do when you get them refilled. No need to do anything too special other than put the cap on and tie them down. Those bottles are definitely not fragile.
Reply:Argon! Oh the humanity!Weird that a moving company would have an issue with inert gas. With the caps on those bottles are extremely tough. |
