This is a radiator support for a infinity in think. Pretty big gaps and a couple cracks. The guy was beating me up so bad it was rediculas. I wanted to beat him up! He was russian lol. He was trying to talk me down and telling me I'm a bad welder.

Reply:No comment....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:All I can say is wow!
Reply:Well he is probably trying to flip a crashed vehicle, most likely to flip it or for his customer.  Either way, you are eating into his profit, Damn you!  Have you seen the Russian crash videos on YouTube.  There must be plenty of work for body shop guys over there.... That hole repair does not look like what I would expect from a pro (=charging someone more than the cost of materials/consumables).  You could have at least washed over everything and smoothed it in.  Then made some stack is dimes passes over the repair to give it more athletically pleasing look.I'm just a hobbiest.  But I occasionally do welds for a little money.  If I sent out a part looking like that.  I would have done it for free or for materials only.   Just saying.  I think that's what the pros that commented are referring toLast edited by soutthpaw; 12-31-2014 at 09:20 AM.Reason: YTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I think I would have plated over the hole with some 1/8" aluminum. The rest could have been dressed up with a flap wheel to give it a better look.
Reply:I would have replaced both of those "drop arms" that got all bent up.Thats all I have to say, about that

Reply:New one cost 800 and used 200 but got sold. I charged him 50$ and there was more welds then i showed. and its strong thats whats counts, sometimes not always the looks. It was a big hole how much better can it look with running beads over the top which I think would be a wast of time. I should have grinded it. then you would never know
Reply:You used high strength filler, 5356 filler I hope? Or at least 4943? He got a deal at $50. I would have said it would take an hour to strip, straighten, then weld(with high strength filler).Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:$50? if the guy was being a doosh and his only option was $200, why didn't you tell him $150..?Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Well the 50$ was just for welding the cracks and holes. He has it now but he wants me to try and straighten the bent piece out again. I told him 40$ but i think im gona change it to 60$ and have my friend that does body work help me. and he's gota pay me up front this time. but if I can't do it ill give the money back to him. It's gona be tough with out the car. I think I'll have him make a couple trips back and forth. I tryed welding a piece of 1/4 x1 inch flat stock to it and used my slide hammer to pull it out but it ripped a chunk of aluminum out so I had to weld that hole up to lol. But I dropped in a little piece of AL for that then welded it.
Reply:He was saying I wanna come over and use your welder and do it myself lol. I was playing along because he had not payed me yet. But in my head I was thinking no way!
Reply:Ya it might just not be worth it.

Reply:the guy got what he payed for but then again some people want everything for free
Reply:My point was more along the lines of most customers judge "quality" by appearance.   They have no idea what a sound weld is.  So making it "look" nice is not a waste of time because that customer who is happy with the end product will return with more business in the future and/or recommend other potential customers to you.   If you get that part back, consider cleaning up that repair and even stack of dimes passing over the old hole.   See the customer response when he sees it.     Also Zap has a few threads up where hee had filled big holes with TIG.  Might ask him for pointers if you are interested.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Ok thanks zap!good job on the repairs. I don't think I have welded cast aluminum yet. I heard those 413 chryslers were torque monsters with there 30 inch runner length.Last edited by motolife313; 01-01-2015 at 02:01 PM.

Reply:If the guy was being a jerk, why would you want to have anything more to do with him? It wasn't a simple little crack. Something major caused all that damage. If somebody wanted a cheap job, I'd probably do it like you did but tell the customer it's not going to look like new unless you pay for it to look like new. $50 here is less than a 1/2 hour job. I'd guess you spent over an hour on it.
Reply:I spent right at an hour on it. Besides trying to weld somthing on the bent part and pull it out with the slide hammer. I will grind it down next time with a grinder or carbide burr. It is strong tho. It wasn't budging when I was slide hammering the **** out of it and I smack it pretty good with the hammer and dented it even more
Reply:Moto: Good job seems like you worked with that you had. Don't let a customer tell you what should be charged, there money is not worth it in that case. Reply:Originally Posted by shovelonAs you know some customers will just not take no for an answer. Their strategy is to wear you down until you agree to their terms, whether they lie or otherwise themselves. They just hog up your time and tire you out. How you shuttle a cheapskate out of your shop does not matter to me. Sure sometimes I could entertain a last minute repair or fabrication, but if I am tired and the customer is a dick, I tell them to go down the road to a shop I know will not or can not do it.
Reply:Some customers expect to haggle and sometimes the best customers come by playing the game. Being prepared to do battle or being prepared to walk away is part of the game. A good part of the time the customers with the most money and the most work, provide the most profit. I don't like seeing any work getting away from me, but sometimes it is meant to be. Working with the public is 10 times worse than earning wages. It is also the most satisfying. I just hate it when it does not pay the bills.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
