Finally found a decent piece of steel plate for my eventual welding table build. Actually, I found a table and a piece of steel, so I should be set. The table is a 2x4' piece of 1/2" on angle legs, perfect height, but will need a couple braces on the legs to sturdy things up. The flat plate is a 5x5' piece of 5/8", which should be more than enough for my needs. Found both items at the local recycling yard, total weight was 860lbs...able to get both for $0.15/lb, roughly $125 out the door with it loaded on the trailer. I believe the 5/8" plate weighed closer to 625 lbs, so my table will easily be close to 800 lbs when all said and done.
Reply:Great find! That'll make a nice couple tables.

Reply:Wow, the only place i know of that sells drops and randoms is $1 per lb!
Reply:Damn, that would get expensive. I have some heavy c channel to use for legs, but I also have some 4" steel pipe that I could use. Haven't decided what size I want the table to be, may keep it at its current dimensions. I think having the extra 2x4' table will be a huge benefit around the shop! |
