Lincoln Pro Mig 180 Welder Problem?

Hey so I just purchased a lincoln pro mig 180 and I plugged it in and ran the wire through made sure the ground cable was tight to the clamp and the gun trigger connector receptacle in and everything then when I went to weld nothing would happen the wire just came more and more and nothing so then I touched my welder to my ground clamp and it sparked but only if I touched it to the ground clamp. Then when I looked in my gun trigger connector it only had 2 pins for some reason though there were 4 slots.Whats the problem* Iam doing flux cored welding no gas* * The welder comes out of the box ready for flux cored* so polarity is screwed tight
Reply:With a brand new unit I wouldn't mess around. Call Lincoln and get a real answer. I have that same machine and have had zero problems. It might be something very simple that they have heard of before.PS: Mine also has just two pins. Reply:Do you have painted metal or is it clean? It's pretty basic info (so I'll apologize if this has already been checked), but make sure you have a good ground that's clean steel and free of paint or mill scale (mill scale is a grey coating on hot rolled steel like you might buy at tractor supply, etc).KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175

Reply:some of the factory supplied ground clamps are pretty flimsy on these small machines, maybe get a better clamp- not much money to make a big difference
