Well my welding machine plans just took a wild turn.  My brother in law brought home a millermatic 140 for our hobby shop.  This Mig will fit our Mig needs nicely. As long as we can weld up to around 1/4 inch with it that's all we need.  We will stick anything that's thicker.  Sence its 115 v we can run our stick and now Mig at the same time if need be.  Now that we have stick and Mig covered I'm looking into a welder generator.  I want it to use as a portable welding rig mostly for building fences or other odd welding projects at buddies houses ect.  However we are also going to use it as back up power if need be.  We have a lot of power outrages.  Usually only a few hours but last winter it lasted days!  With that said we / I am looking into a bobcat 250.  This machine will not see constant use just maybe once or twice a month.  Some times it may sit longer.  With that said would you go EFI non EFI or LP?  I've read if its gonna sit for a while you are better off going EFI.  I've also been told LP is even better because your fuel won't go bad.  However I don't see it sitting that long.  Is there any advantage to LP?  Anyway which way would you go?  Thanks.
Reply:1st that MM140 will not do 1/4" no matter what the literature might say. It will top out at 1/8" under real world conditions. To get solid welds on 1/4" you need at least 180 amp capable machine, and if you plan to do any quantity of 1/4" go with at least a 200 amp or larger mig.LP won't have the storage issues that gasoline driven engines will have, but you will loose HP and therefore output when comparing gasoline to LP units..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:That's cool with the 140. We will play with it.  It's mostly going to be used to tack together BBQ pits and discos shelves ect then we will probably use the arc welder to "weld" everything.  It's also going to be used on some auto body.  I really think I'm going to just go EFI. If I don't use it for a bit I'll just fire it up and use it to weld untill I burn off all the old gas then re-fill it.  But I want to make sure.  With the engine driven if we are working on a big project my brother in law, step son and I can all work on it at the same time.
