ok im putting my new rig together 2016 dodge 2500 srw i bought a flatbed for it instead of building it just for the fact that i can't have my rig down for more then a long weekend, the bed is 84"x84" its a little tight because its on a short bed the bed was ordered for  my old truck but that truck is now retired (long story) so i had to get another short bed so i could use what i ordered and not have to eat my deposit. The acetylene bottle is going to be mounted vertically behind the welder but i was thinking of mounting the oxygen horizontally between the cab and welding machine, how would i go about mounting it , I'm probably  over thinking it and should just go make a mount for the bottle but would like some suggestions, (sorry for rambling on)
Reply:Mounting it horizonally is going to take up a lot of room you don't have.
Reply:Unless you have something to mount above it, like a slim toolbox or reel setup, laying it down in front of the welder is going to be a space killer.  Have you thought about elevating the welder above the bottle??  That would gain you another foot of bed space. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Reply:What about modifying the rear of the bed with a door so you can slide it in between the frame rails of the bed and the truck frame above the spare tire. I don't know about your particular bed but most seem to have quite a bit of room there.RyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask
Reply:I'm going to have about 14 inches of space between the cab and welder  thats where i was going to mount it.  but i do like the idea of raising the welder and mounting it under it , going between the frame rails wouldn't work because of the way this bed is made
Reply:So you've got a 7'x7' flat bed on a 3/4 ton chassis. What do you have for a welder? How many bottles are you wanting to haul, and what besides the welder and bottles do you need to haul? A 3/4 ton runs out of gvwr pretty quick if you have much equipment and air bags do not increase your gvwr. You may be looking at a trailer pretty rapidly. So, what all do you need to haul before we tell you how to load, or overload your truck?
Reply:sa200 for a welder 1 oxy and 1 acetylene i have my double stacked lead reels and i was looking at a set of 36inch long boxes for it, a trailer would be out of the question i do distribution gas work and work in some pretty tight spots

Reply:i have the crew cab i have the welder in the back of the bed now and the suspension basically laughed at the wt when i put it in i took measurements before and after the welder was in the back and it only dropped the maybe 3/16 of an inch  I'm picking the bed up tomorrow so i can get a better idea of things i think i might have the room to put the bottles vertical between the cab and welder next  to each other and sink them into the flat bed
Reply:Might be a good time to check what dot and the feds says about bottles  If your truck grosses out like mine you should have a 21,000 lb capacitytrailblazer 302thunderbolt ac dc machine Hobart fluxcoreAHP tig 200x 2015
Reply:The feds say laying the bottles down is a big no no could be up to a 2000 dollar donation to the local or state pd and red flag the rig till the bottles are mounted properly
