not to sure if this is a dumb question because i know you can convert stick to tig like the forum says.... but can you convert tig to stick? i had a mig welder that got burnt up something on the inside and its under warrenty. but i have the option to exchange it for a tig welder but it is only labeled for tig.
Reply:What model of tig welder is it?Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:You will have to peel that label off before you can convert it. Otherwise it won't work.
Reply:it would be a eastwood tig 200 dc. not the ac/dc one, i know its not much but im just starting out
Reply:oh also i know i would have to switch the leads around for dcep and i would have to activate the foot pedal, but if i did all this would it work?
Reply:Sounds like they have a lot of DC-only left overs or returns.  If the TIG doesn't work, how much time do you have to return it at THEIR shipping expense?30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press
Reply:they didnt offer the trade, they offered to give me a new mig 175, i asked if they would do the trade since it was of same value. i pretty much just want a stick welder but would use tig from time to time
Reply:It should work just fine if you keep the arc tight. The ony real problem I see if if you pull a long arc it's goign to greatly increase the arc voltage and that could maybe cause problems. Tig runs an arc voltage of somewhere around 16volts and stick is basically double that. Not sure how the tig welder is going to like running at 60v or more...Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Get a rod stinger . Otherwise you will mess up your TIG torch.

Reply:If the Tig torch lead plugs into the machine with a standard plug, there shouldn't be a problem.Call them and ask them if you can plug a lead into the TIG receptacle.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. Reply:May not run 6010.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:I have the TIG 200 DC, just bought it as my first "cheap" welder.  Unfortunately I cant snap you any pics because I havent had a chance to use it yet, and its in my storage shed at the moment.  How soon do you have to make a decision? Since I'm new to welding I don't know what's "standard" and what's not, but I can get you some pictures of the connectors to identify.
Reply:Actually, out of my own curiosity to get more info on this thing, I ran up the street and took some pics.I will say that if you want a stick welder, and will likely rarely do TIG, I recommend just getting a stick welder.  I was originally going to buy a brand name stick welder and do a TIG setup with it, but decided to go this route because I rarely if ever would use it for SMAW, and for $400 I got high frequency start and a pedal, even if the pedal is hokey.I do know that the pedal connector isn't a standard, I assume that the torch and clamp connectors aren't either. The thumb switch on the torch is only an On-Off switch, so it's not really good for anything besides tacking:Last edited by slimbobaggins; 01-06-2015 at 10:56 PM.
Reply:It looks like it would be a kludgy workaround, at best to run stick. It may be best to have them replace the mig, and keep your eye out for a stick machine.Don't tell anybody I said so, but for 200 bucks, the smaller Harbor Freight 220 volt stick/tig machine does an admirable job with 6011 and 6013, and as a small tig welder, also.Last edited by geezerbill; 01-07-2015 at 01:06 AM.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind.
