Morning All,I have a 30+ year old Hobart Beta MIG I bought new and have been able to keep it going so far...repaired the drive motor, etc. Consumables are harder to get...upgraded to a Tweco gun. She keeps on chugging but I will openly weep when she dies! So, I am looking at a used Lincoln LN-9 wire feeder. What can it use for a power source?Would a Miller DialArc CC or Syncrowave supply it?Thanks,DB
Reply:You need a CV power source to run an LN9 and Lincoln feeders use a 42 volt circuit so that's a requirement as well. LN9's were common to use with sub-arc, Innershield and other HD feeder applications. A compatible Lincoln power source would most likely be 3 phase. A CV 300/305 would work but I think there's better options if you just need a MIG machine, especially if you only have single phase power. For single phase power you're probably better off getting an all in one MIG machine like a Miller 252 or Lincoln 255/256.
Reply:I appreciate the input. I have a plain jane DialArc and was just wanting to see if it would work. Having a reason to buy another welder is never a bad thing, though.I've been very happy with my BetaMig running .030 wire and CO2. Missed out on another BetaMig for $400 as a backup/parts machine...May try to upgrade from my DialArc to a Syncrowave....but see it is still just a CC machine. Thanks again,DB |
