Just bought a new vantage 300 I'm welding pipe with it still trying to get used to it and got some questions if any one can explain what the VRD is used for
Reply:It lowers the OCV down to like 30 volts when you're not welding, instead of the published 60 volts OCV.Pipelining I'd be afraid of the possibility of cold starts myself. I haven't tried it on my Vantage and haven't planned on it. If I ever get a good shock I might consider it. Welding pipe I hope you mean pipelining!!! I've noticed some advantage of running the big knob up hotter and the remote down somewhat. You need to try different combinations and see if you can tell a difference. I also notice how the rod starts with different settings on the arc-control knob. A lower settings seems to calm down the spike, where a higher setting seems to make it more a hot start/tail.Try these ideas and let me know what you find out. lolGood luck.Last edited by slowhand; 01-05-2011 at 09:39 PM.
