need portable power

Driving myself nuts tryin to figure out what I could use for clean portable power for a miller xmt 304.  I need good single phase 240 50a power that i could take around with me.  I saw a few generators from generac rated at 15k and 17k that would give me what a need and then some, but i see mixed reviews with running and inverter off of gen power.  Any suggestions?
Reply:If you run your xmt off a genny just make sure your genny can handle the requirements and always be sure to have the genny running at full speed and not at idle when you turn your welder on.Leave it on full speed at all times. I've run my dynasty many times of a genny and always did as I said and never a problem.Problems arise from letting genny idle then Rev up, that's a big No No when running a inverter.

Reply:man kinda wish i didnt get the used xmt now.  should have just saved some more money and bought a used trailblazer or new bobcat.

Reply:I have been disappointed in the AC out put of my Bobcat, but mine is an older 8000 watt unit.  It seems the circuit breakers are light and blow way before their rating.  I bought it hoping to run my AC welders and plasma off it if I needed, and it only runs the smaller units.  I guess if you want quality AC power you should look for a Quality gen, not a combo unit.   I realize Bobcat is their low end model, so I may be wrong about their better models, so maybe a trailblazer or something else might work.
Reply:well made the decision to get a 250v 50a installed at the house.  Ill make money with it, and when i have made enough profit to buy a serious gen/welder, I will.

Reply:Looks like generator joe has a bunch of gens 12k+ continuous with 5+/- volt and 6 +/- hertz........is that too much on the hertz end
Reply:I have a 10,000 Hobart that I run my Miller 150 inverter and 221 HTP inverter off of. At the time I could not afford a new blue or red gen. but needed one to get my business started so picked up a used hobart with 500 hrs on it for alot less then a new one with the same output. Normal operation for me always seems to do stuff backwards but this time i think I did something right!! lol Maybe look for a lightly used 10000watt unit any brand jus my opinion.

Reply:i also have a hobrt engine drive.  11k surge, 9,5k continuous.  when the power is out, it will run my a/c, tv/satelite, and 4 cieling fans in my house.  not sure if the power would be clean enough for your inventor, but it should have enough.  watch the ad pads and craigslist.  i picked mine up for $900.  was 9 months old and had 450 hours.  there out there
