Reply:Go down a couple threads, it was just discussed.  I own a 12" makita and everything else in the shop is gathering dust, best saw I ever owned.  Three blades in three years or close to it.
Reply:It seems like you need to know a lot of stuff before you will purchase band saw . Well, I wanna refer to you bandsawblog.com . I've been reading blogs about band saw stuff on that site and been really helpful .Hope this will help you too .Bart
Reply:Need to read more feedback regarding the dry saw your going to buy...
Reply:I have the Dewalt and the Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is the better saw by far. Blades are expensive, so take good care of them. Don't buy the piece of crap by Evolution.
Reply:Check out the thread i started awhile back.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=172871
Reply:Justin I was looking at the dewalts and Milwaukee type saws.   This will be used for light fab and pipe work.  I am wanting something that will cut angles much more accurately than my abrasive saw, and with less prep and clean up.Miller BobcatHarris cutting outfitMiller spectrum 625 plasmaVariety of shopmade tools
Reply:For a home guy, the dewalt and Milwaukee are the way to go. Both are about equal in a home use. I have the dewalt, but the Milwaukee does have a better base being cast bs stamped. But I found my saw in like new condition (the fence was not even scratched) at a pawn shop for $279 it did need a blade as the one that was on it was junk. But at $100 I was on the saw for $379 and still way cheaper than new for a saw that was used by someone that had no idea how to treat the blade. Check your local craigslist, stop in at some pawn shops and find one that seems to specialize in tools. You can get great deals once in a while. If you find a dewalt or mil, for a god price jump on it. Both are about equal in my opinion.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:I did not check the price difference between 12" and 14" carbide dry cut blades, but I bought the 12" makita because it was the only one available years ago when I bought it.  It still does 95% of what I need perfectly, so I am glade I have it.  Any thing Bigger, I blow the dust off my old band saw, otherwise it is pretty idle.
Reply:I bought a Steel Max. Over all, a good saw, vise has a pipe clamp feature. The blade was out of square with the base though which I was able to shim to correct because I didn't want to deal with the warranty hassle. When I called the company about this issue though, they told me it wasn't a precision piece of machinery. I told them I know because the out of square issue is pretty obvious with a speed square.
Reply:i love my Milwaukee dry cut saw, blades are expensive though.  NoBigDeal Fab u know there is a place here in down town glendale that sharpens blades on a cnc sharpener right when it dulls right? ive got 3 blades and when im down to my last one i take the other 2 and get them sharpened for 25.00 each, alot better then buying a new blade every 6 months or so for 200.00 a pop.mike
Reply:I'll have to check into local sharpening costs.  When I inspect my dull blades there are many chipped or damaged carbide teeth, so I imagine those teeth have to be replaced.  I just assumed by the time a saw shop replaced half the teeth, sharpened, then balanced the blade it would be getting expensive.  I do have a local shop that will do it, I just never brought him a dry cut blade.
Reply:my guys only charges 5.00 for the first broken tooth repair and 2.00 for any others after that. really cool guy, he'll talk for hours though.mike
Reply:I bought the Milwaukee (6190-20)without a blade.  I paid $279 for it that way, back when you could get the Freud Diablo metal cutting blades on Ebay for $38.  It was a very cost-effective way to go, and the saw gets a lot of use.  I still have a stack of unused blades, since I'm only on my second.  The good deals on those blades have gone away, though.  In the future I'll have to keep an eye out for them on Ebay or suck it up and pay $107 for one on Amazon.  Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:I should have my own opinion in a few days.  Just ordered a Milwaukee.Miller BobcatHarris cutting outfitMiller spectrum 625 plasmaVariety of shopmade tools
Reply:I've got a Ridgid which has performed flawlessly for years. It might be a little underpowered if you are cutting a lot of 1/4"+ wall stuff. Take it easy and don't try to hog it through and it works great.
Reply:I think I am in love.  I see what y'all were talking about as far as quality of cut.   I have also found a use for my magnetic square.  About the only thing it's good for is picking up the metal shavings that are produced.( lol)Miller BobcatHarris cutting outfitMiller spectrum 625 plasmaVariety of shopmade tools
