Ok so a couple of dumb questions.   Where is the best place to mount the pc board and the ree switch.  Also is there a specific area or can someone suggest where to put the oil pressure switch. Thx in advance69 sa 200
Reply:The oil pressure switch is next to the oil filler neck.  The oil pressure gauge is probably there now.My 58 had the gauge, my 80 model had the switch. lolThe oil pressure indicator was the little green pilot light on the faceplate.  When the oil switch closed the light would come on indicating you have pressure.  I also like having a gauge, especially a manual one.  But I worked for years with nothing but the little green light.Good luck manLast edited by slowhand; 01-07-2011 at 05:28 AM.
Reply:I see.  I researched some photos and have seen what looks like a T fitting that would take both69 sa 200
Reply:I can't remember what those pressure switches will flip at.  It seems like 8lbs.  So if the pilot light is on you know you have at least that much. lolThe electrical system to the control panel was run through those pressure switches I think.  That way when the engine was off (no oil pressure) it wouldn't drain the battery. Not the starter or alternator because their current draw is too much for the little switch.  But the control board, idle solenoid, pilot light,  ammeter, (?) were run through those.  I think they were rated to 30 amps. The master toggle switch was only a kill switch for the magneto.  At least thats how I remember anyway. Best of luck hooking it all up.
Reply:Thx appreciate it.  I guess I should mention I have no oil light.  I have a 69 with the vacuum idler.  That's what I'm replacing69 sa 200
Reply:* I was wonderdering where you tie in the other black wire coming from pc board?** It says to go to black exciter wire.* Is that one of the four coming from on top of generator.* The smaller wires are black brown red and blue.** Is the black the exciter wire I have to tie in to?69 sa 200
Reply:Yes the black exciter wire is what you have to tie into. It goes from the exciter coils to the powere plug. If you look around on here you should be able to find some wiring schematic for newer sa-200 with a electric idler. Hope this helps.  Mike
Reply:Hey try Bills welder repair there is some good schematics there. http://billswelderrepair.com/Engine-Drives.html
Reply:Thx a bunch guys.   I have read and looked at the schematics on bills.   Unfortunately Im not an electrician.   I got it all hooked up like I said and got the schematics figured out just wanted to be sure.  The old wire off of the old r57 solenoid was hooked up to one of the spots on the generator at 2 o clock.   Could I just tap in there or should I just splice it in the black wire?69 sa 200
Reply:Just go to the side of the power plug where the black wire is attached. loosen the screw and crimp a split terminal on the wire coming from the pc board. Slip in in there and tighten it back down and you're done
Reply:Hey dg09us did you get your oil pressure switch put on
Reply:Yea sure did.  Pit a T in it and hooked the yellow wire  on one post and the other post I just put to altenator69 sa 200
Reply:The black wire has a round connector on it.   Like for a post that has a nut to hold it69 sa 200
Reply:K got it figured out.  You have to remove the black and brown wire from the receptacle and tie them both to the black wire from pc board69 sa 200
Reply:Awesome man glad you got it figured out. Have you ran it since you got it put on?
Reply:Yea I ot it running bit it stays at high idle.  I am taking the pc board off and cleaning the metal really good to make sure it is grounded.  I also need to check the linkage for adjustment.  I have no clue how to do that so any info is greatly appreciated.      I sure wish that they would include more detailed an to the point instructions (I.e. Put the black wire here and put the red wire here etc....).  I know that sounds elementary but some people are better at things than others.   And I'm no electrician by any means.   Maybe I should do a write up or something69 sa 200
Reply:Yea I would do a write up, what company did you get it from. Ive got to do the upgrade on mine as well. Did you have any other problems with any other wire colors
Reply:No.  Luckily my wires were covered with old tape coming out of top of generator so I peeled it back and could see the colors fine. I'll work on a write up.  I started it last night and didn't want to idle down so I gotta check the linkage adjustment.  I also found that I was leaking oil from the tubing coming from gauge.  It has a crack so it was leaking.  This may have caused it.  Gonna check tomorrow after work.  Got a **** down to weld some tie in on a chiller.   Anyone have good instructions on linkage adjustments??69 sa 200
Reply:Hey bub try out weldmart.com, on their home page there is a technical and manual section. Click it then there is a electric idle troubleshooting link click it and that may help you
Reply:Yea I did.   I understood it a little more.   I still can't get it to idle down.   I don't know if I have a bad solenoid or not.   It gets power but when I put it to 12v it moves but doesn't snap like it should.  I have to push it to help.   Then once I pull the the wire it snaps back like it should.   The linkage isn't in a bind cause it wouldn't snap like that.  I checked for clearance and it good.   I don't get it.   Also I'm not get a light like it says on the yellow wire on the board.   I checked to make sure that the spacers are grounded good and they are.   Just gotta go over it again I guess69 sa 200
Reply:I'll have to take some photos I guess.  I ordered mine from hybriweld.  I'll stard working on the write up69 sa 200
Reply:You may also try calling Fowler and see if can troubleshoot it over the phone for you . Hell who knows the PC board may be bad.
Reply:Yea I did call and did everything they said.  I haven't messed with it since last tues so I'll mess with it tomorrow.  He did say something about the arms on the governor.  They said it might be in a bind but it worked fine before with the r57 idler so I'm stumped.   Gonna go throu the trouble shooting steps again to make sure again but your right it might be a bad board you never know69 sa 200
